Frankly, I think Bill Cosby is just a fall guy. Not to detract what he did, but Hollywood is all about people like him, and always was. It was born in sleaze, it attracts sleaze. Same with the music industry. Epstein and Diddy weren't the first, nor the onlies, for their respective circles.

So, really, they pretty much all need a housecleaning.

But it shouldn't mean we need to throw away a century's worth of fine entertainment. It just means we need to remember what a "false idol" really is (hint: it has little to do with statues or pictures in and of themselves) and keep in mind lessons about not worshipping them when the next set of clowns and entertainment monkeys comes along.

They had it right in the days before Broadway, or Shakespeare, when entertainers were considered the lowest of the low, and not lionized like now. I guess we now see the reasons why.

And he was about to buy NBC.

I like the implication here that artists are uniquely dangerous individuals, rather than that we live in a society where people of any career or occupation are allowed to hurt others without consequence, as long as they have sufficient money to get away with it. Forgive me; I wasn't aware of Epstein's prolific career on stage and screen.

I think you’re forgetting that a big reason abusers’ work is pulled from rotation is to deny them future earnings.

Once Bill is dead, the reruns will probably return.

Cosby Show reruns still air on tv. I just checked, the shit's on The Grio right now.

Yes, but other cast members have said that they suffer from the episodes being pulled because there were no residuals for them.

Hm, I don't think that's it. Sexual harassment and rape by professors of their students is a known problem in academia and I don't think that's because academics are the lowest of the low or the profession was born in sleaze. And as people mentioned, a lot of people Epstein invited to his island were scientists.

Same argument applies to abuses by priests within churches. It's about opportunity and lack of accountability, not the respectability of a profession.

In retrospect, I find it kind of sus that the Fat Albert cartoon was such a sausage fest. About the only time you'd see a female character she'd be, say, the mom of a boy who was friends with another boy who was a regular character and she'd have maybe ONE line.
