I'm completely uninterested in the creators of things I like with the exception of looking for other things they've created. Then people are like "never meet your idols!" or "don't idealize celebrities!" like that's the normal, natural thing to want to do and I feel weird about it.

I don't even like seeing performers live. Creations only please. The purposely edited version of the show or song or whatever they wanted the audience to experience is all I'm interested in.

I fully agree with you, but also idolising or idealising celebrities is very much the majority opinion on this one. It's been an entire industries for well over a century at this point, and mass media only heightened it.

I like this secret, it’s an interesting way to exclusively media and not one that I hear often, but one that resonates with me. It’s just about the work and that’s it.

I would be curious how you feel about other “live” aspects… for example, something that mainly exists in live form like theatre or even the experience of watching something with an audience.

(I’m not so absolute about it myself, I like hearing creators talk about their works and their process. And talk show type anecdotes can be fun.)

Yes, it's natural to not want to idealize creators. It's also natural to want to idealize them.

Everybody has their own history, and their own reasons why they feel the way they do about creators.

It's not a judgment about where you stand.

The funny thing about this secret is that I was instantly reminded of something Guillermo del Toro said recently during press tour for Frankenstein. Something along the lines of you will know more about what del Toro is like and what his innermost thoughts and feelings are through his films than you would by talking to him IRL.

Like, yes, Secret OP. I don't think there is anything wrong with how you choose to consume the media you enjoy. There is no reason to have any interest in the creators TBH, like...not really.
But in this unpersonalized approach you probably have a clearer sense of the creator's true intent/passions than what many hardcore fans of the figure do.

I personally enjoy learning about creators of things I really enjoy. I think it came from really enjoying English class, and finding Shakespeare to be just as interesting as the plays he'd written. I can enjoy a piece of media as it is, but if I really like it or didn't like it, it can also be fun to look up the creators of the projects to see what inspired them to create what they did.

TL; DR - idolizing people who work in creative industries is a form of entertainment media of its own; enjoying media made by creatives with no interest in the creators may be a better way in actually enjoying said media; I like humans and I think humans are interesting, please don't interpret that as me idolizing creatives/being into pop culture worship (PS. creativity and humans' relationship to it is interesting too)
