What % of FS users do you think are neurotypical / neurodivergent?

Are you neurotypical / neurodivergent?

Personally I suspect I am in some way if only because I have serious difficulty reading facial/body language, among other issues. But no official diagnoses, mostly due to growing up in a missionary community where neurodivergence wasn't aknowledged.

And honestly no idea. I think the general level among nerdy people/fandom is higher than the average. But other than that, no clue.

Probably more than a few, people in fandom do tend to fall into being less neurotypical.

I have a dyslexia/ADHD combo that sure makes life interesting when I don't want it to, but I manage it the best I can and I otherwise do alright. I can actually hole down jobs for more than a year now so yay for that.

I definitely am neurodivergent. I have Di George Syndrome which has high chance of running alongside autism and ADHD and other neurodivergencies.

More are than are not. I am.

I'm not sure which you mean?

More are neurodivergent than are neurotypical. I read the first post wrong. 😭

I assume like 95% are neurodivergent in some way, with a high percentage of autism in the crowd.

I've seen "neurodivergent" defined different ways so not sure if I qualify, being bipolar.

I'm bipolar too and I never know if it qualifies for the "neurodivergent" badge. Our brain is clearly different from someone who doesn't suffer from it, but idk it's not something we were born with (apart from genetic predisposition) so it's not a developmental disorder, which the definition of neurodivergency seems to be about. I'm forever confused.

(I do have ADHD too (possibly why I developed my bipolar disorder in the first place - fucking rad coping mechanism, thanks brain), so I can "claim neurodivergency", but personally I believe bipolar disorder change your brain and defines certain traits waaaay more than ADHD imho. obviously this depends on personal experience)

I think we skew neurodivergent and it’s partly because FS is a holdover from the days when fandom was mostly neurodivergent people.

I’m neurodivergent and learned my social skills on LJ through fandom.

Definitely feel like I'm neurodivergent. I'd say a good chunk of FS members are neurodivergent. I also think many of the neurotypical folks have neurodivergent folks in their lives so they can meet us on our levels most times.
