I think that's a LOT healthier than the current evolution in celebrity fan culture, honestly.

I have been to exactly one live show for a band-- it was a good time, I liked the music and I had a cool experience, but it's not something I feel the need to do again when I know I enjoy listening to music at home/in the car. Live comedy shows I've been to more of, though that's not necessarily about the performers as people for me as much as it is about going out with a friend for a fun time, and I've been to a LOT of plays, which is REALLY not about the performers (except for the cases where they were personal friends because I did theatre in a small town)... I do think there's a huge value in live entertainment, and I think it's kind of a bonus-- in terms of the celeb culture problem-- that accessible live entertainment is usually a bunch of nobodies, whether it's community theatre or a college improv club.

I guess I try to hit a healthy medium, there are creators who I will always come back to because I like their creations and sometimes I care more than that-- not the same way I care about people I know in real life, but the way I care about any other stranger I follow on social media because they make something I like or they're funny, or their politics align with mine and I trust the news they share. I certainly want to be aware enough that like... if someone whose writing I have enjoyed is outed as a predator or funds a hate campaign, I can stop buying their books and promoting their work to others, but I don't want to be so enmeshed that it feels personally devastating. Like... I *do* follow my favorite living author on threads, I *do* follow a couple of my favorite actors on instagram, but that's just a part of my feed, not something I seek out. If I happen to see their pet pics, I enjoy that, but I don't go digging for them because I follow a lot of other people with cute pets.
