I was and still am a huge fan of the old Mononoke series and I wanted so badly to like the new movies but honestly, they're not great. It all feels like it was done by people who tried to copy the show without knowing what made it good (which isn't the case, I know, but still feels that way).

Especially the style, colours and textures are just off. Also, the writing is... lackluster at best, especially in the first movie. So sad as it makes me, I'm not a fan.

I really enjoyed both movies and cannot wait for the third, but I admit that I really think the Kun Kusuri-uri is way different from the Li one (the first one). More curious and cheerful, is like a yin-yang.

I'm still not entirely convinced that it was really planned to turn this into "there are several different Kusuriuri" and not "oh shit we don't want the VA anymore but we don't want people to throw a fit if the character they connect with him isn't voiced by him anymore so uuuuhhhh IT WAS A DIFFERENT ONE ALL ALONG". I mean, it works because the characterisation would have been pretty off as well so I'm not mad about it but yeah.

The art on the right reminds me a little of the later Louis Wain stuff after he started going schizophrenic.

That's actually a pretty chill image in comparison to a lot of the movie, especially the parts with lots of background.
