I was and still am a huge fan of the old Mononoke series and I wanted so badly to like the new movies but honestly, they're not great. It all feels like it was done by people who tried to copy the show without knowing what made it good (which isn't the case, I know, but still feels that way).

Especially the style, colours and textures are just off. Also, the writing is... lackluster at best, especially in the first movie. So sad as it makes me, I'm not a fan.

I really enjoyed both movies and cannot wait for the third, but I admit that I really think the Kun Kusuri-uri is way different from the Li one (the first one). More curious and cheerful, is like a yin-yang.

My child adored Finding Nemo when they were a baby. We played out that DVD, over and over. Now my baby making whale noises is 17 and a full teenager itching to swim out on their own, and I keep remembering this line from the movie: "You can't never let anything happen to him. Then nothing would ever happen to him." It's silly, but this quotation comforts and guides me as the parent of a teenager.

Not silly at all, IMHO. And I think you’re far from the only one. My mother teaches English to recent immigrant parents and one of them did a “book report” presentation on Finding Nemo. All of the other students were very enthusiastic about it and what it had to say about parenting.

(My mother was especially pleased that during the discussion they asked her “Can you say ‘too much careful’ in English?”)

That's really sweet, and it sounds like you knew the lesson already, but quotes from favorite media have worked well for me in moments when I need somewhere to turn for a reminder.

You know that scene where Elle Woods throws a box of chocolates as a romantic movie on her t.v. and yells "Liar!".

...yeah, that about sums up why I don't like romantic movies, or at least heterosexual ones.

And yes, before anyone says it, I know it's my own baggage, but I'll happily stick to horror movies and documentaries as genres.

They never bother to build it up and actually show you those people falling/being in love. They take it as a given that a woman stood next to a man = in love, moving on to whatever drama they really want to do. It sucks.

Well yeah, it's a fantasy the same way action movies are.

I can give or take romance movies, I like some, don't care for others, it really depends on the execution and honestly just whether or not I have fun. I've enjoyed some truly daft rom-coms that operated on such little logic, but because they were really fun I had a good time. And there are others where the on-screen chem just isn't there for me so I can't buy that they're into each other so fast.

I grew up ADORING the Aladdin cartoon on Disney channel and tried to rematch it recently but couldn't finish...the art and animation style is too ugly. I guess I didn't notice as a kid? I understand they didn't want to spend the money on the original animators/artists of the movie, but it's kind of a waste because the stories on the show are fun and they came up with some cool original characters (Mozenrath, Mirage).
