This is totally valid, but oddly, I feel like one of the reasons I don't tend to enjoy het romantic movies is kind of the opposite of your reason. It's not that they're unrealistic about romance, relationships, and het men as romantic prospects. They can certainly be those things, but that's not really my problem with them. My problem with them is often that even though they're supposed to be the stuff of fantasy, they often still involve way too much of the bullshit I hate IRL (i.e. gender roles, heteronormativity, sexism, etc).

Of course, that's just one of the reasons original romance stories don't tend to work for me. Another major reason is that I just don't feel like most original romance stories (especially het ones) do a good job of establishing the characters as people, creating an interesting and complex dynamic between them, and then putting them in situations that do a good job of challenging and exploring the nature of who they are and how the dynamic between them functions.
