No, it didn’t. It sped up the creation that was already underway.

I’ll be honest: it never occurred to me that fans would be so clueless about the history of fandom even though I can see there’s no reason everyone should be aware unless they lived through it. But here is a case of people literally spoon feeding you facts and you’re rejecting them for your own narrative. That’s not just wild, it’s stupid. Luckily for you the work done to protect fans applies to you whether you are aware of it or not. You can absolutely go through fandom and life thinking AO3 is a spinoff of ff.net without any consequences except everyone who knows better rolling their eyes at your stupidity.
