The best thing about Fanfiction.net, which I dearly wish AO3 had adopted when they spun off from it, is it has separate sections for crossover and non crossover fics. It just makes it so much easier to me.

Yes! I would love a crossover page in the same way you can click on the category pages for Anime, books, etc fanfiction on AO3.
Yes you can use the filter system, and with it you get the annoyance of every asshole who isn't using crossovers for actual crossovers - but to store their five million one sentence 'fanfic' among the shopping list of fandoms.

Obligatory AO3 is the best fanfiction site ever in every other regard, but it's still the one thing I miss from FFnet.

I’m sorry that you don’t know how to build a custom filter list for your fandoms. You would have been really screwed back in the days before AO3. The many fic archives that went dark without warning and are the actual inspiration for AO3 would have been impossible for you to use.

OP is right and right to say it. The problem is that AO3 treats true crossovers and multi-chapter/multi-fandom compilations as the same.

I wonder if AO3 could change the Fandom entry field to require authors to enter a mandatory Primary fandom for a work, which would then open to allow entry of additional fandoms as required. It might help convince authors of compilations to use Collections or Series instead of multi-chapter fics of unrelated fandoms.

I've never been able to spot when a man is wearing a wig. Not even when it has been as obvious as Walter Koenig in his later roles, or even Frankie Howerd in Up Pompeii. It is just a blind spot I have. I don't even know if Ernie Wise supposedly wearing a toup is just a joke or not. How do you all spot them?

well, the pieces in those pics are really well done, so don't feel bad about not being able to clock them quickly.

my speed is due to 25 years of the evolution of cosplay wigs - I know what the fibers look like, even the nicest modern filaments as well as actual human hair wigs. I know how the lights on a set affect the sheen, and I also know all the makeup crew's tricks to try to make wigs look less wiggy. So, I don't dismiss folks who don't have all that background knowledge to always catch the wig. You're lucky, because the makeup tricks are being done so well (as they should be!) that you don't notice. I mean, if the only reason you know it's a wig is because you see the actor without it while doing the promo tour...good job hair&makeup!

the only time I think "???" when someone says they didn't realize it was a wig is when it's so fucking cartoon-level obvious, like you can see the actor's hairline under the edge, or the bad makeup blending along the lace/hairline, or the texture is wildly different from a scene in the same episode/movie before/after because they had to quickly slap on a wig for pickup shots. the wig is usually a close-enough style but not styled exactly like the actor's hair was the first time, and if you cut quickly enough between shots you'll see it instantly. It's knowledge you can't take back once you see it.

I've never watched Trek (except the Abrams movies if they count), but I do love Holly Hunter and think she's a great actor, so maybe I'll give the show a try some time.

Afroman's "Lemon Pound Cake" is kind of a bop, plus, out of all the cops this is the only one whose actions were relatable and defensible. That did look like a delicious cake. I'd stop to look at it too, probably write to his lawyer afterwards too and ask for the recipe and compliment his mama for making it. I think I'm doing authoritarianism wrong.

I really miss Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, I hate that GW ditched it as not being distinct enough from DnD nor as big a money generator as the endless army creation and reboots from regular Wh or Wh40k. It was fun to do individual stories in the background of the old Wh world.

I know about the licensed stuff, but that is just not the same
