...? You can filter for or against crossovers. ...?

Not OP but AO3 is more irritating to filter out the crossovers. You have to filter out the tag crossover but also filter out the fandoms that might be crossed over because some people tag one way but not the other and it's just... annoying.

Thank you, I am aware of the filters on AO3. Sadly 'crossover' filters STILL include fic collection that are not actually crossovers.
FFnet had a page of fics that actually were crossovers. In the same way that you can go onto AO3 and instead of using filters to find fanfics from book fandoms, you click on 'Books' and can go through the list of fandoms on a seperate page.

I DID!!! LOOK AT THESE SUPPOSED Sonic/Zelda "CROSSOVERS"!

Impenetrable walls of unrelated fandom tags...vague descriptions that don't have either fandom as a focus...monster one-shot collections...monster crossovers where it's clear the characters from each franchise will be non-entities...

FEEL MY AGONY!

Sonic the Hedgehog - All Media Types and Legend of Zelda and Related Fandoms (with Include only crossovers marked)

Now, to compare the results from Fanfiction.net

Relevant results, characters from each franchise actually mentioned by name in the description, clearly playing a role in the story. Much better!

Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog Crossovers page

The issue is, there's no "otp:true" equivalent for searching for crossovers on AO3. It would be like if your otp was almost always included in fics as a mere mention or minor side couple. And you had to manually exclude a plethora of ship tags instead of being able to use a hidden search operator to display fics with your pairing as the sole relationship tagged, to be sure that they were the main focus.

Omg thank you, this is exactly what I am talking about.

That part is true, but the issue is it's more difficult to filter for a specific crossover that solely includes those fandoms.

I've practically given up trying to find Legend of Zelda/Sonic crossovers, because 90% of the results are those monster one-shot fic collections, or Smash Bros fics where Sonic is only tagged because he says something snarky to another character, and Link stands there with his sword.

Not something cool like the whole gang teaming up to take down the combined forces of Ganon and Eggman, or Sonic and Zelda dating in a coffee shop AU. Makes me want to tear my hair out, because even when I use the exclude function to remove the most common "invader" fandoms, the results are still full of not-Sonic-and-Zelda centered crossovers.

Click into the Crossovers section for a fandom on FF.net, and see how it compares. You won't regret it.
