Ah, I remember that. We actually played Poohsticks as children. (Also racing raindrops on a window, which is from a different piece by the same author.)

Anyway, that’s a lovely image. People have told me to think about those thoughts as balloons that you can let go of and let float away. But I like this image even more.

My siblings and I played those games and never watched or read Pooh as kids. I love how true to childhood the Pooh stories are sometimes.

Yeah, AA Milne definitely nailed some very common childhood experiences. I did grow up reading the books and his poems, but I think I loved them so much because they matched my sense of “playing pretend” and the other games we made up for ourselves.

I've played Poohsticks as an adult! It's genuinely fun if you have any whimsy, probably because it's so simple.
