I used to think it was wrong to feel bad when someone died. I used to sideeye people who genuinely celebrated deaths. I was wrong.

I will be happy. I will be relieved. I will know the world is a better place without him in it. And I will feel genuine joy.

When Biden was elected in 2020 I literally found out because I could hear all the cheering and hollering from downtown. I'd been keeping an eye on it online, but when I heard all that I knew.

I imagine it will be similar with Trump dying. Just people partying in the streets, making noise, celebrating.

Feel temporary relief, then a mix of hope and dread because it's a toss-up to see if Americans have actually learned a goddamn thing this past year or if they're going to get complacent again and declare the worst is over, so they can go back to pretending it's business as usual and they have no responsibility to participate in a democracy they wish to benefit from, or improve it so it actually works for all.

Like, sure, let's enjoy the new public toilet, but understand there are worse folks out there than a racist, misogynist, narcissistic child rapist with dementia and cankles who sucks at running businesses... and they're younger.

I’ll find out on my phone and I’ll be ecstatic but I won’t really do anything. I’m a speck of blue in a sea of red so no one to talk to. I don’t really use social media anymore so it’s doubtful I’ll be included in any chats but I will be downloading Facebook and enjoying all the memes.

Every year, new years and fourth of july, our neighbors start setting off fireworks WAY too early to enjoy them and keep doing so into the wee small hours of the morning and it pisses me off every time.

When Trump dies, I will not be pissed off about the fireworks.

(I have a playlist set up. If I could safely consume alcohol, I'd have champagne, but I will be stocked up on sparkling water and grenadine for a little mocktail action)

The Return of the Jedi ending will be posted everywhere. And I mean everywhere. John Williams' Victory Celebration will become its themesong.

After the guy chose to be a real-life Palpatine that would also sexually assault children, and invade other countries to the point not even oldest allies felt safe, it's gonna feel similar to people all around a distant galaxy celebrating the death of an old tyrant.
