ADULT ACNE SUCKS.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-15 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
My acne actually wasn't too bad when I was a teenager, but it got progressively worse as I got older. Finally, when I was 30, I went to a dermatologist, and taking a drug called spironolactone has almost completely cured it.

But not completely. About once every 3 to 4 months, I get one really terrible nasty spot that will not go away.

The last one was right before Christmas. I remember it because I had a few days off work for the holiday, and I knew that the spot that was developing was going to be bad enough that there would be traces of it after I came back. Lol, that was an understatement. It turned out to be one of these ones that lingers and lingers and lingers. It took SO LONG to finally heal up, and even now, there is a faint red spot where it was.

A week or so ago, I had another one start in. I was afraid it was going to be one of the bad ones, and sure enough. At first it seemed to be going away, and I thought maybe I was mistaken, but oh no. It came back, and it's still here, and it's so gross. I can tell it's another one that's going to leave a trace that's still there in July.

I use a prescription retinol, benzoyl peroxide, metronidazole gel, and mostly my skin is clear and looks good except for these damn spots that come up once in awhile.

I can put makeup over it, but like, by the end of the day it still looks bad. But if I DON'T put makeup on it, I have this really nasty spot that people have to look at all day.

Sometime I really need to see about visiting the dermatologist while I have one of these going. I don't think it's cystic acne, but maybe there is something else they could do/prescribe for it to make it heal faster. It's soooo aggravating.

I know there was discussion about scented trash bags a day or two ago, and I just want to add on to that with strong scents in general. Not everything needs to have a strong scent. It's also not necessary to saturate your body and clothing with a strong perfume or cologne. I do have a special hatred for scented trash bags because most of them DO smell so artificial and gross AND cause headaches, but even perfumes that smell good can be bad too when they're really strong. Like please don't wear so much that you leave a trail behind you everywhere you go, and so much that people can taste you. I can be sensitive to scents and it sucks when someone has so much cologne or perfume or even fabric softener than it gives me a headache. I had a coworker who bought scented lysol spray and febreze and would spray the shit out of everything, it was unbearable. Finally had to go to the boss over it and he spoke her about it (apparently I wasn't the only one who had a problem with it) and she got offended over it!

NO, I haven't heard anything. I'll tell you when I do, please stop asking.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-15 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm waiting to hear news and I have people who keep pestering me "Have you heard anything yet? Have you heard anything yet??" when I promised them I would tell them when I heard something. NO. I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING YET. I TOLD YOU I'D LET YOU KNOW AS SOON AS I FOUND SOMETHING OUT. AND I HAVEN'T. PLEASE STOP FUCKING ASKING.

Sorry, I know I'm kind of being an asshole, but it's getting really frustrating. I want news too - good news preferably! - but badgering me isn't going to help anything.

I've had a headache for like three days now. :( I think it is work stress that won't be letting up any time soon. I have a long weekend vacation in a couple weeks that will hopefully help.

I got a flat tire and the shop couldn’t find the hole to patch it. I also really needed new tires and I knew that was but was trying to put off spending the money as long as I could. I got four new tires today and my summer plans all have to be canceled. I hate how expensive everything is nowadays :(

Sometimes, I get so tired of doing routine human hygiene/maintenance. I get tired of having to eat. Oh look, it's time to fix food AGAIN. Time to drink water. Time to go pee. Time to have a shower. Time to wash my face. Time to brush my teeth. Time to go to bed. Oh, goody, my period just started. Time to deal with armpit hair. I just get tired of it.

Had an absolute evil just yesterday. Wouldn't even let me put on any of my 4 witnesses. Told my client he was a bad dad to his 4 USC kids because he was here without a visa and got himself detained and that him being detained was no different for his kids than when he had to travel for work. Repeatedly yelled at my client. Wouldn't let me present my case at all. Would have been a very solid appeal, but he knows he won't get appealed because detained clients are miserable and don't want to stay in the hell hole they are in.

I held his sobbing mother yesterday while we explained to his family what happened.

There will be a reckoning someday, and that man is going to lose his job. But right now, he is free to do all the evil he wants. Genuinely the worst judge I have ever run across and probably the worst human being I've ever met.

I really wish I could afford a house so I could get away from fucking stupid shitty inconsiderate apartment people who live upstairs and don't fucking understand the concept of other people, and that no one is obligated to be held hostage to whatever the fuck THEIR sleep schedule is. HI I'M UP SO I HAVE TO STOMP AND SLAM THINGS AND BANG INTO WALLS AND DROP HEAVY OBJECTS AND LET MY CAT HAVE ZOOMIES NONSTOP BECAUSE IT'S CUTE TEEHEE. It's fucking simple, STOP MAKING SO MUCH FUCKING NOISE IN THE BEDROOM AT ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT. (Unless you're fucking or something, that I at least understand. And for the record, I've heard people fuck who made less noise.)

Sleep deprivation is a torture tactic, and fuck anybody who makes their inability to be quiet at night everybody else's problem.

Is it normal to have to get up and pee at night?

(Anonymous) 2026-04-15 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
30s woman, no health problems that should affect this, except maybe PCOS? Surely that doesn't have an impact? Anyway I'm tired of having to get up at night to pee, at least once a night. Often twice. Occasionally three times. I do drink a lot of water and maybe I need to cut it back. I just get tired of getting up to pee every single night. Probably I should have just stuck this in the rant thread.

Re: Is it normal to have to get up and pee at night?

It is normal if you drink a ton of water. Try stopping after like 7pm.

This is what I have to do

I get up one to three times a night for this purpose. You can try timing your water consumption, limiting it to earlier in the evening. I also recommend making the trip to your bathroom quicker (clear path?) and easier to recover from (red or yellow tinted lights or nightlights).

Once you hit menopause your water intake will have the extra fun side effect of making you swell up like Violet Beauregarde.

I drink 2/3s of my daily intake in the morning and at lunch. And I nurse the last third through the afternoon and early evening. I don’t drink anything within four hours of bedtime and don’t need to get up in the middle of the night anymore.

I'm in my 40s and unfortunately, I do have to get up and pee despite limiting my water intake 3-4 hours before bedtime. This is harder to do in hot weather. It doesn't always happen, but if I wake up in the middle of the night by accident (dog making noises) then I'll have to pee before I can fall back asleep. If I don't get woken up, then perhaps I can make it until morning.

Re: Is it normal to have to get up and pee at night?

(Anonymous) 2026-04-15 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
40s and I've gotten up consistently 3+ times a night since I can remember. I think part of it is restlessness but I think another part is anticipating period stuff, especially since it was discovered I have fibroids.

As long as your pee doesn't smell unusual it's fine.

Re: Is it normal to have to get up and pee at night?

(Anonymous) 2026-04-15 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty normal. If you are constantly having to get up to pee but then only peeing a little bit, then that could be a problem. But otherwise pretty normal.

[personal profile] philstar22 2026-04-15 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I've had to do that all my life, but it has gotten worse as I've gotten older. I'm in menopause, and I've been told that lowered hormone levels tends to lead to an increase in peeing. Plus I'm losing weight right now, or trying, and that makes you pee a lot too.

For me it is at least 2 times, usually more like three to five.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2026-04-16 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, normal, I do it all the time. I have enough ambient light going that I don't need to turn on any lights and just get right back into bed and right to sleep again. But yeah, it's normal.

Re: Is it normal to have to get up and pee at night?

(Anonymous) 2026-04-16 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
i usually wake up to pee at least once, sometimes twice. if i don't get up to pee, i'll have dreams where i'm searching for a toilet that cannot be found or the toilet is broken/dirty/missing a door on the stall when i do find it.

New media you’re looking forward to

[personal profile] iff_and_xor 2026-04-15 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Any upcoming movies, TV shows, books, games, etc. that you’re especially looking forward to?

I’m planing to see a couple of new movies in the next few weeks or months…

Marama – a period gothic horror film about a Māori woman who arrives in England to learn more about what happened to her parents. Looks creepy and beautiful and cathartic. trailer on YouTube

I Love Boosters – a crime comedy movie about organized shoplifters who turn their sights on a particularly haughty and ruthless fashion designer. Looks like a lot of fun. trailer on YouTube

Hamlet – an original-language, modern day version staring Riz Ahmed as the son of a prominent Pakistani family in London. Yet another adaptation, but I’m a fan of the play and I like seeing it placed in new settings. trailer on YouTube
