Some parents are absolute dipshits who didn't think the parenting thing through and likely just had kids because that's what was expected of them. It sucks that so many kids are damaged by this, but I'm hopeful that a lot of them recognize the harm done and break the cycle, whether by being better with their own kids or just not having kids at all.
