Potter was such a huge part of my life. I have mostly given it up, other than the occasional fanfic read. I just wish there was something else, another fictional world that would come to mean that much to me. Potter got me through a miserable childhood. I haven't found anything else to fill the void.

What particular elements stood out to you? I'm only vaguely familiar with the franchise, but if you can list some specific things (coming of age themes, worldbuilding centered on sorcery, school drama, traits of certain characters), you may be able to get some recs that can similarly scratch those itches.

Since I haven't read more than a few chapters of HP, I can't say exactly how many itches this book will scratch, but I love Howl's Moving Castle. It seems to have a few key elements in common, like a protagonist seemingly confined to a lifetime of monotony having their life changed due to magic, and a lot of neat worldbuilding around said magic.

It was a combination of things. The character, the overarching world A(combination of medieval stuff, magic stuff, and modern stuff), the magic system. It just grabbed me. In a lot of ways, I liked fics more than I liked at least the later books. But I just haven't found a world that grabbed me the same way.

I think it’s hard to actually replace something that really resonated for you at a particular time in your life.

But I hope you find something to get excited about in a similar way.

(My favourite magic system is probably from the Rivers of London books. I like the way they do the whole process of learning magic, as well as the way it interacts with science/tech, and the wider mythology too. Not quite as whimsical as HP, perhaps. And much more about adults than about kids.)

nayrt but I feel like this is the part that so many people are missing. Sometimes a piece of media hits just the right way for whatever reason, and another piece of media just being similar won't scratch that itch the same way.

It's ironic seeing this secret right after the one above it, obviously HP was special to kids who liked the series growing up.

Fwiw OP, I feel similar about OSC's Enderverse books, they were very important to me when I was young and helped me get through a messed up abuse situation. The flaws and the places where OSC's bigoted real-world views show up in the text are obvious to me as an adult but as a kid they were just scifi books about kids in tough situations, with a cool setting. I still enjoy rereading some of his books now and again, because I have a lot of happy memories attached to them from a not so happy childhood.
