I wanted FOUNTAIN soda, not canned soda.

Oh, you want a vent, I've got one that's just as petty and first-world a vent as you could EVER imagine.

I don't normally drink or eat stuff that has the artificial sweetener aspartame because it leaves an aftertaste in my mouth that doesn't go away until the next day, no matter what I do. It doesn't matter how much I brush my teeth or use mouthwash or eat/drink other things, it's there until I go to sleep and wake up the next morning. It's one of those things where it's not unbearable, but it's unpleasant enough that I can't stop focusing on it.

But I also sometimes get an absolute CRAVING for Diet Coke. Diet Coke specifically, not regular Coke or Coke Zero or any other soda. Diet Coke. I want that particular flavor.

Today I woke up with that, and when I went to go get my lunch at this little business downtown, I saw a soda fountain and I was like oh! I want a Diet Coke too!

But instead of using the soda fountain, she reached in a refrigerator and cracked open a regular old can! I thought nooooooo I want the GOOD stuff from a fountain! Because you know fountain soda vs canned soda vs bottled soda all tastes a little different.

Obviously I wasn't going to make a fuss and when I looked more closely at the soda machine, I could see that it was partially disassembled. But still, I was disappointed.

However, the food was good, and even the canned version scratched the itch, so it's not all bad. :) But next time I'm just going to hit up McDonald's!

I'm with you, there's just something special about fountain soda.

nayrt but as someone who used to serve fountain soda, it's awesome. Unless the water's not so great, then it can be a mixed bag.

My soda container preferences rank as follows:
S-Fountain
A-Glass bottle
B-Can
(Skipping C through E)
F-Plastic bottle, seriously, fuck plastic bottles

Haha, plastic bottle is second to fountain for me. We can't easily get glass bottles here so I haven't had one in years and cans aren't great to me.

Fair. Reactions can still happen with aluminum cans so I can see why some might find the taste off-putting.

Agreed. I don't drink soda anymore because of health issues, but fountain > canned. Not to mention that charging fountain prices when you're just going to crack open a can is kind of lame. I WANT ICE IN MY DRINK, dammit.
