Complaining and venting thread

I'm feeling whiny, I'm sorry

One of my coworkers has decided that the new thing to do is to hide these tiny little plastic ducks everywhere. The first couple were cute, now it's just irritating. This afternoon when I was alone I gathered up a bunch and threw them in the trash. It doesn't make a difference though because apparently they are sold on Temu where they are like a cent each so she has hundreds if not thousands of them. Some people are finding it charming but I guess I'm old and grumpy and have no sense of whimsy anymore because when I run onto another one it just irritates me even more.

I hate the culture in the US that expects us to work while sick. I love my new office for the most part. But there is definitely an expectation that you show up unless you are so sick you can't get out of bed. And that means things breed there. This could has been going around the office, and now I have it. So annoyed.

Me too. It's really frustrating, like. If the first person who got sick stayed home and didn't spread it, then no one else in your office would have gotten it. Instead it gets passed around. It's dumb.

Hello! I'm a European. I will use your comment to subtly hint that you should fawn over me for having the talent to will myself into being born in a country with ample sick leave. Other Americans are encouraged to join you. :)

Every country has its own problems. Don't get smug just because your country might excel in this area.

You actually sound white and American.

I lost my job about 6 weeks ago, and when that happened, my significant other took it upon himself to inform all of our mutual friends. He also told them that I had an interview for my dream job.

I know he meant well by it, but I honestly don't appreciate him broadcasting this far and wide. I did not get the dream job, sadly. I knew it wasn't likely, and I told him that, but he still shared it with people. Now I have people texting me and asking if I got the new job, and I have to tell them that I didn't.

I am going to talk to him about it, but he can be a little sensitive about stuff like this. Again I know he was trying to help me and rally support/people who care about me, and I do appreciate that, but I'm also pretty private about stuff and would have preferred to have shared it on my own terms.

Be honest with him. You say he's sensitive about this stuff, but he didn't seem to consider your feelings at all. He's not the only one who is allowed to have things they are sensitive about. He hurt your feelings, and you are allowed to feel that and allowed to tell him that.

Re: Complaining and venting thread

(Anonymous) 2026-04-25 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have patience with people like your partner. If he's "a little sensitive about stuff like this" then maybe he ought to be more considerate of other people first. People who are thoughtless blabbermouths don't get to boohoo about THEIR sacred feelings when they've screwed up and hurt someone else.

If* you think he's able to empathize with you on this, I'd emphasize how much his news-spreading exposed you to disappointment and embarrassment about not having better news to share, and now every person who asks you how the interview went (meaning well, of course) is re-opening the wound for you. That's a shitty thing to do to them AND you, because they don't want to hurt you like that.

* That's a big "if", because he hasn't exactly shown himself to be great about considering your needs and feelings so far.

I wanted FOUNTAIN soda, not canned soda.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-24 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you want a vent, I've got one that's just as petty and first-world a vent as you could EVER imagine.

I don't normally drink or eat stuff that has the artificial sweetener aspartame because it leaves an aftertaste in my mouth that doesn't go away until the next day, no matter what I do. It doesn't matter how much I brush my teeth or use mouthwash or eat/drink other things, it's there until I go to sleep and wake up the next morning. It's one of those things where it's not unbearable, but it's unpleasant enough that I can't stop focusing on it.

But I also sometimes get an absolute CRAVING for Diet Coke. Diet Coke specifically, not regular Coke or Coke Zero or any other soda. Diet Coke. I want that particular flavor.

Today I woke up with that, and when I went to go get my lunch at this little business downtown, I saw a soda fountain and I was like oh! I want a Diet Coke too!

But instead of using the soda fountain, she reached in a refrigerator and cracked open a regular old can! I thought nooooooo I want the GOOD stuff from a fountain! Because you know fountain soda vs canned soda vs bottled soda all tastes a little different.

Obviously I wasn't going to make a fuss and when I looked more closely at the soda machine, I could see that it was partially disassembled. But still, I was disappointed.

However, the food was good, and even the canned version scratched the itch, so it's not all bad. :) But next time I'm just going to hit up McDonald's!

I'm with you, there's just something special about fountain soda.

nayrt but as someone who used to serve fountain soda, it's awesome. Unless the water's not so great, then it can be a mixed bag.

My soda container preferences rank as follows:
S-Fountain
A-Glass bottle
B-Can
(Skipping C through E)
F-Plastic bottle, seriously, fuck plastic bottles

Haha, plastic bottle is second to fountain for me. We can't easily get glass bottles here so I haven't had one in years and cans aren't great to me.

Fair. Reactions can still happen with aluminum cans so I can see why some might find the taste off-putting.

Re: I wanted FOUNTAIN soda, not canned soda.

(Anonymous) 2026-04-25 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I don't drink soda anymore because of health issues, but fountain > canned. Not to mention that charging fountain prices when you're just going to crack open a can is kind of lame. I WANT ICE IN MY DRINK, dammit.

I had a huge panic attack yesterday. Full blown amygdala takeover that left me shaky and feels like I'm still recovering from it. Unfortunately it happened on my way back to work from lunch and I spent much of the afternoon zoning out and doing smaller tasks that didn't take much brain power.

I'm lucky that my workplace is understanding and a lot of my colleagues were concerned but I'm still worried if this is what gets me fired.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. :( I HATE how that works - that you still have like aftereffects..I don't even know how to describe it. But once you get through the main thing, you still feel shaky and just weird and off. I'm glad people are understand at your work, and I hope you get to relax and recover and feel better over the weekend.

I have an internet friend who lives in a rural area. It's a low cost of living place and she works in healthcare, so while she's not necessarily rich, she makes enough money to afford a decent house on some land.

And like. I know I wouldn't be happy living there. But sometimes it's really hard not to be jealous when I look at pictures she shares. Right now there's all these wildflowers blooming and the trees are fully leafed out, and I'm like, this bitch gets to look at this shit every single day and go out in fucking nature, and I'm stuck in a city.

I wouldn't actually trade her. She actually lives in a blue state but the place she lives in is conservative. There aren't a lot of good doctors there and I have health issues where I need good doctors. Limited stores. Not many good jobs. Slow internet. No culture. Etc. Plus the maintenance and upkeep on the house and the land. But sometimes it's really hard not to wish I could trade her for just a while.

I get it. It wouldn't be the ideal place *for you* to live, but it sounds more like you envy how she managed to carve her own comfortable space.

I live in a place like your friends does. Many people move out here, hate it and leave. I only regret it when I have to travel for medical stuff, which, unfortunately, I have to do a fair bit.

I feel like I'm too focused on consumerism and buying things. Sometimes I look at the people I'm following on Instagram and I'm like, why do I follow these people? All they post is their latest new purchase. I need more in my life.

Tbf I've complaint to everyone in sight about my job yesterday. But it is getting worse everyday.
The day was so bad, that our department head printed out his notice and was just looking at it.
We spend our days doing shitty presentations. And they ARE shitty, because information is bad, tasks are bad, we supposed to make it on a weekend and at NIGHT. I only have got one of those, because my department's management is like fucking normal. And then our higher management has a nerve to ask why we are not doing our regular jobs. I WONDER WHAT HAVE WE BEEN FUCKING DOING?
Also, for example, I've designed a whole ass souvenir collection alone, because there is no one else in quite a record time, because I know I AM fast. Just to get told that I need to design the same amount while I absolutely have no time. And the kicker - I know the budget. It's enough for like 10% of those things.
And it's tip of the iceberg.

I wanted to work till my vacation, because I haven't got one of those in a normal way in a pretty long time. But wow I am tired
