What is everyone doing this weekend?

Tomorrow I will flying to Denver for a four day weekend (only two full days there). It is kind of a low key vacation to see if we will enjoy a longer one there. The main thing I'm excited for is Meow Wolf.

I’m redoing my laundry room. It’s way more fun than it sounds, I swear! I have to wait another week or so before I can order cabinets and then another month to get the closet system but I’m in full swing on everything else. The painting is coming along nicely and all of my wall patching and smoothing turned out perfectly. I have some super cheap vinyl wallpaper to make a backsplash at the utility sink and also put behind the built in shelves. It will be so nice after living here for many years to finally have a laundry room that we can organize and move around in.

I'm sick and my mom is in pain. So we will be holed up in the house together sleeping and being looked after by the kitty. I'm still rewatching Grey's Anatomy, but mostly I just want to sleep.

Just a cold I think, but I feel pretty lousy. Throat is on fire and all I want to eat is soup.

That sounds really fun. Denver is actually pretty nice, my aunt and uncle used to live there so I've been a few times.

I was just sitting here thinking about stuff and how I used to spend more time with friends, sometimes irl, sometimes just online. And I'm like, I don't WANT friends, I don't want to have to deal with these people, not even in a Discord chat. I'd rather just not. But I know it's not healthy to isolate myself. And that's just one of the ways I've been feeling down, there are so many other things in my life where I know I'm depressed because I don't like something, or don't enjoy something anymore, or don't have the energy, or am grouchy about something when I shouldn't be, or just don't care. But I have always had a hard time talking about myself and it's a struggle to think of myself saying "Yeah, I've had this low-level depression going on for years, what can we do about it?"

That’s a good question and while I know we’re just internet strangers, it’s really nice to hear that you’re being more proactive than I generally have been.

You say that you struggle to imagine yourself saying that to your doctor. Do you have a feeling of what would hold you back from just saying it? I feel like the advice might be different depending on what your worries/anxieties/discomforts are.

It really depends on the doctor. I have experience of my doctor being very proactive and taking my input seriously, so I would have no problem going to her and saying just that: "I think I've been depressed lately."

For other doctors, it might be better to go find a psychiatrist.

Doctors are normally not happy when you self-diagnose (no matter how accurate you are!) so it's usually better to talk about the symptoms, as you have done in most of this comment. Then the doctor can consider blood tests to rule out a physical cause like low iron, hypothyroidism, sleep issues or low B-12, or think about possible depression.

This is so dumb but I'm honestly sad about this. Lol. I got a little cute anklet on Amazon, it's multicolored jewels, and one of the rings bent open today when I adjusted my legs while sitting. I have the teeny tiny ring as well as the anklet but I don't have a pair of pliers small enough to fix it.

I knew it wouldn't hold up forever but I'm still kinda sad.

For a moment I read this as "I broke my ANKLE" and I was going to offer my sympathies.

It's a bummer about the anklet but maybe someone (or a makerspace) has the tools you need to fix it?

I feel like all these secrets were submitted by one single person. Every single one of them. They just wanted to watch the world burn for a little while.

One of them was my comment (the one about nothing else grabbing me as much as Potter). I didn't do any of the others.

I'm feeling whiny, I'm sorry

One of my coworkers has decided that the new thing to do is to hide these tiny little plastic ducks everywhere. The first couple were cute, now it's just irritating. This afternoon when I was alone I gathered up a bunch and threw them in the trash. It doesn't make a difference though because apparently they are sold on Temu where they are like a cent each so she has hundreds if not thousands of them. Some people are finding it charming but I guess I'm old and grumpy and have no sense of whimsy anymore because when I run onto another one it just irritates me even more.

I hate the culture in the US that expects us to work while sick. I love my new office for the most part. But there is definitely an expectation that you show up unless you are so sick you can't get out of bed. And that means things breed there. This could has been going around the office, and now I have it. So annoyed.
