I agree with you. I actually think the police department handled it well, for a change. 7 months does seem like a long time, but if they had arrested him sooner and then he wasn't convicted due to fast, sloppy handling of the case, people would (rightfully) be screaming about that. Taking their time is 100% the way to go. I think sometimes people get used to TV shows and other fiction where stuff is wrapped up quickly but in the real world it usually doesn't work that way. This stuff takes time and it's better that they take all the time they need and seal up any potential cracks that the perpetrator could slither through.
