If I could like a secret, it would be this one.

The people who want Star Wars to be dark, grim, gritty, and adult are fundamentally missing the spirit and point of the series. Hell, some of the first non-book expanded universe stuff made were the Ewok telefilms and the Nelvana cartoons (Droids and Ewoks). Having it be grimdark goes against everything. Like yeah, there are moments of seriousness, but Star Wars is best when it embraces sincerity and a little bit of camp.

I've found, more often than not, the ones who bellyache about Star Wars not being dark/serious enough are the ones who are often embarrassed to say they're fans when Star Wars embraces what it is (i.e. the episode of The Mandalorian with Lizzo and Jack Black as guest stars, or the goofier episodes of The Clone Wars). They want things to grow up with them rather than admit that maybe, just maybe, they've aged out of it or that they misunderstood what it was supposed to be all along. If they want grimdark, bleak and hopeless sci-fi, there's always the Battlestar Galactica reboot from a few years back, I guess.
