I used to do it all the time as it was on my way to university. It always went well and I never had any issues. That said, I have a very much not-in-demand blood type, to the point where I'd get a wry "...thanks for coming out" from the staff and they didn't even bother sending reminders to my contact info, whereas my O- buddies had them blowing up their phones and hounding them to come back. So yeah, I got the message lmao. I still do it whenever I get the chance, though.

Yeah, they were quite thankful, but I couldn’t tell how much they actually wanted my blood. Seems like my platelets might be more in demand, so I’m thinking of doing that next time.

I’ve heard that in some places, they notify you if/when your blood gets used, which seems like a nice thing. But I guess it could be discouraging to know how much blood is collected just in case and goes off before it’s needed.
