Re: Giving blood

I used to donate more often when I lived closer to a donation site, but I still try to hit drives when they're nearby! My lifetime total is approaching 8 gallons, with a chunk of it being platelets as well.

For whole blood, my blood type is also fairly common, but I think of it as making sure that other B+s have what they need so that more O- is available for higher level emergencies.

Since I used to be able to donate platelets more often (I had a car, lived nearby, and worked from home back ghen, so my schedule allowed it much more frequently) and my platelets are "worth more", they still try to hound me, and I've managed it a few more times since my life changes. Not being able to move for 2-3 hours isn't great, but I get to just chill with a movie, the chairs and warm blankets are comfy, and I think the machines and the process are pretty neat.
