The Wolves of Willoughby Chase is basically just Jane Eyre with Werewolves. It is an early pre-genre take on the Classic Literature mashed with a Monster type of book. It was just too early to catch the wave.

Werewolves?

It's been a long time since I read this book, but I don't remember any werewolves. Regular wolves, yes.

It's a fantastic book, but the wolves are quite literally wolves, no were- involved! I don't think it's all Jane Eyre derived either, though the middle section definitely is straight from the school part of Jane Eyre. I think this was the first time I read a kids' book with a grim industrial setting and I immediately loved it.

I adored this book. But - no werewolves.

Was there a movie adaptation of this book where a wolf breaks a window in a train car? I remember seeing it a long time ago especially that specific scene.

Yep. And there was a pretty graphic death (for a kids movie) where someone was mangled to death iirc.
