All I see is grumpy Tony in a hood.

Like is there an explanation for why they cast RDJ as Doom? Like, something that isn't just "because he makes us lots of money"?

Not that it really matters to me, I'm almost definitely not going to go watch this.

IIRC there's a plotline where Tony Stark becomes Doctor Doom, and that's where they're going with the current MCU plotline.

Same here. I wasn't going to rush to the theater to watch this anyway, and probably won't even bother sailing the seven seas for it. But casting RDJ again in another main role just makes me feel tired. There was too much Tony Stark in the MCU for my taste, and I don't have a ton of confidence that this new character will feel markedly different. It's not that RDJ isn't capable of acting, but Stark wasn't a stretch for him, just like Guy Ritche Sherlock Holmes wasn't a stretch for him. They all feel like the same cocky smart aleck guy in different clothing.

I agree with you. I like Tony Stark ok but I do think there was too much of him, and I am also skeptical of how this will go with this feeling like it's just Tony Stark 2.0.

That casting leaves me with no hope because Doom is clearly going to be an AU Tony Stark who goes evil... when Doom is an evil Reed Richards to be his narrative foil. So them throwing that aside tells me everything I need to know and I dislike all of it.

+1

We already had Spiderman derailed by Tony, had Captain America's third movie be about Tony, and he got Endgame too. Now Dr. Doom is also Tony? Fuck off.
