Other LOTR Anon.

There's some overlap, but the ACTION! RARRR! guys usually at least think Gimli and Legolas are cool. The super right wing-y guys get The Ick from Legolas and Gimli, even though they're absolute badasses.

I love how tender and sweet all the characters are to each other in LOTR.

I was going to say that's weird but if this is from people who read the books I sadly get it because Legolas and Gimli are as gay as Sam and Frodo, which obvs means bad and awful.

Ugh, I'm glad I don't have much contact with the right-wing dudes, the RAWR WAR guys are bad enough with their wrong takes.

Tolkien was so good at creating complex male characters (and some women as well) who didn't just fit into stereotypical masculine stereotypes. Some of his most masculine men were emotional, loved music and played instruments, and generally just don't fit neatly into the stereotype boxes.
