UGHHHH YEAH. I was in a fandom where ONE fan had a strong top/bottom preference and got big enough early on to cement it, to the point where decades later I have received nasty comments about daring to write it both ways. Which only served to turn me off the popular interpretation completely. I don't mind people interpreting characters as strict tops/bottoms, or only writing it one way, but the BULLYING over it is so out of pocket to me. Like... some people *are* strict tops/bottoms, some people have a preference but it's not one hundred percent, some people have no preference, and some people don't engage in penetrative sex at all! And you can interpret fictional characters any way you want! But so can I and everyone else who disagrees with you!
