I'm violently reminded of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer outfits. I didn't realize Friends was the same time period.

eh, the late 90s tended to straddle multiple aesthetics. You couldn't consider The Nanny fashion to be analogous to BtVS even when they were being filmed in 1998-9 at the same time. Friends had its own coherent aesthetic that was not being informed by trends of the time, it was deliberately attemping to inform.
