I worked office jobs without a gap for 27 years. Have a liberal arts degree.

I've been unemployed for 2 years now, and I've never seen anything like the current job market.

Menial labor positions not posting salaries. Requiring an application, resume, and video recording of prompted questions before you can be considered for an interview. Job postings for positions that don't actually exist, with extensive application processes designed to collect data for shareholders. Hours and hours of labor to get to a real person. For jobs that pay $12/hr.

If you have a full-time office job right now, hang on for dear life, no matter how bad it is. And constantly upgrade your skills and resume just in case. Watch your state's job posting aggregator. Check in at least weekly to see what's out there.

I used to think it was horrid to sit in an office 8-5, doing 2 hours of work a day, coming home to hours of unpaid domestic labor. I would give anything to be in that situation again.

I was a temp for 20 years and only just recently got a full time job. Anytime I feel overwhelmed I just think to myself "this is better than job seeking".

I would literally pay a week's salary for a steady job at Walmart right now. I'd probably accept $10/hr.

This is what I tell myself too. My current job is nothing special but really not too bad. My previous job was really awful and it took a long time to get work again after I left it (due to a family emergency). No matter how overwhelming things can be I'm so grateful that I have a job and the job is overall okay.

I'm so, so sorry. That's awful. I really hope you find something soon and that it is a job where you are at least treated decently.

Thank you.
