Ironically swimming with the stingray was one of the more conventionally safe bits of wildlife documentary practices he ever did. Him taking a stingray blow straight through his heart was a billion to one shot from the fish, and honestly something that it hardly ever does with humans. It was completely unpredictable.

If it had been a croc or a snake, then it'd be understandable. But the risk with the stingray was probably less than the risk of driving to the airport to fly out there.

Still would have been a 0% chance if he hadn’t been swimming near it at all. Death from a car accident may be more common, but that’s because a lot of people drive every single day. Swimming with stingrays may have been “statistically” safer but it was also a completely unnecessary risk.
