Fandom?

As someone chronically out of the loop, this almost looks like a fake show to me.

It is the Live Action One Piece.

Chopper's been a core member of the cast since the 2000s so I'm afraid you're shit out of luck, pal.

(he's a reindeer with the mental capacity of a fifteen year old whose mentor died, give him a break)

They should have cast Rudolph instead.

Hate to disappoint, but this show is an adaptation of Japanese manga. And Japanese character would believe their mentor fully, especially if they are young. So yes, it's believable from a cultural point of view.

Also he is a core member. I am not a fan, but what can you do.

This does bring up the point that I'm not sure how clear it was to first time watchers that Hiriluk was a hack with no actual medical knowledge who constantly put his patients in danger with his treatment attempts. The point is very much that Chopper didn't have the knowledge before Kureha took him in since the person who "taught" him had no real skills himself. Hiriluk had a dream, it was Kureha who had the knowledge. Chopper needs to inherit both to make his own dream true.

OPLA does bring it up in the flashback but I think it's dismissed as banter and not Chekhov's gun.

Yeah, and I hate the design of it too. ugh.
