Oh don’t be coming in here with facts, you know no one wants that!

Joking aside, this thread is really interesting to me because I thought FS would be more likely to attract people who are aware data centers aren’t just for generative AI and that not all AI is generative AI. I also thought this would be a crowd that knew that modern agriculture practices are destroying our planet faster than everything else combined.

Are we back to the "if you hate waffles you must love pancakes" thing again? You can dislike two things at once...

Yeah, it's weird. These opinions aren't mutually exclusive and people can hold multiple at once. And this is coming from someone who is fine with non-generative AI.

Yes but the point is that on the whole people who are outraged at data canters are not outraged by destructive agriculture practices. For FS, there are definitely people who are in denial about agricultural pollution and will dogpile someone if they admit to being vegan. And the level of outrage for data centers is disproportionate to their effect with claims against them actually being the fault of agricultural practices.

"There are definitely people who love basketball, who will dogpile people who say they hate basketball. This thread is about hockey, and no one has said anything about basketball in this thread, but the basketball-lovers are for sure here because if they didn't love basketball, they surely would be talking about how much they hate it in this thread about hockey."

False equivalency. All the environmental impacts supposedly caused by data centers is caused by agriculture. That is absolutely relevant to a conversation about data centers.
