I feel like people just aren't going to the movies right now. Even things expected to be blockbusters have made far less than they might have even a year ago. So I don't read too much into movies not doing well right now.

I stopped going to movies when theaters started turning the volume up so high that it because literally physically uncomfortable to me even with earplugs in. Like, sorry, but I have no interest in having my hearing damaged, thanks.

I usually have pretty good luck talking to customer service at my movie theater if the theater is TOO LOUD. I bring earplugs for the trailers, because some of those are excessively loud, but if the movie is ALSO too loud, the theater employees are usually okay turning it down a couple notches. (Also best to talk to customer service, because they're able to contact the projectionist the easiest.)

I think people are being more selective as the cost of living rises.
