I wish people would stop using the phrase "the fandom" to say how many people were displeased by it. Quite a few people in "the fandom" were just fine with it. It's just people who didn't like it were the ones who spoke out about it. Everyone else just shrugged and moved on, because if you dared to mention that you liked it, so came the wank.

Also, didn't mind the ending myself. Except for Yamato. I cannot wrap my brain around that one.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm a pretty hardcore Kenyako shipper, and I still disliked that...thing. I have a big problem with pretty much the whole ending arc, TBH, but the epilogue was just WTF all around.

I will say this, though--I do like the character designs for the Ichijouji kids. Their daughter is adorable, and their son kinda looks like Rin Kobayashi from Please Save My Earth.

I don't know if it sucked worse than Harry Potter's, because at the very least the human and digital worlds changed for the better because of the action in the series; with HP's epilogue NOTHING CHANGED WHATSOEVER and there was no point in the grand scheme of things for the past seven books.

But yes, I agree a whole lot, especially since while the 02 epilogue showed change, I didn't like it one bit.

I hate almost that entire last episode (I never really liked the "everybody gets a Digimon" thing. I dunno why). Would it have killed them to toss some career foreshadowing in there? I mean, okay, yes, in real-life you don't know what you're going to be when you grow up, but it's a TV show, I expect foreshadowing. Not "Okay, so lots of years passed, and now Yamato's an astronaut! And everyone's kids are creepy clones of themselves because the animators couldn't be arsed to make new character designs! So...yeah. Show's done, everybody go home."

I pretty much highly dislike any ending that has shit happen -- career choices, pairings, etc -- that comes out of left field, simply because it's fiction. Fiction is supposed to give you a logical thread to follow. And giving an explanation where one isn't needed is just sloppy; shoehorning in unnecessary details at the very end of something always feels tacky to me.

If Yamato/Matt had ever expressed interest in aliens or going to the the stars (either personally or in general, like "people going to the stars," etc.), him becoming an astronaut would have made much more sense. There is, however, no point to introducing characters for 5 seconds that you never learn anything about; the spouses and kids are total blanks, why did anyone think the audience should care about them?

I'm equally annoyed by the end of the Angelic Layer manga, FYI. :I Ohjiro/Tamayo, really now, that might have made sense if they had ever interacted in canon. /tangent

It could be worse. At least the canon doesn't say whether or not any of the Digimon people named their kids after people who died during their adventures. (Although, to be honest, I think it would have been sweeter and more fitting for one of the next generation of Digimon kids to be named Yukio, after Oikawa, than it was for Harry and Ginny's kids to be named what they ended up being named. But that's just me.)
