Agreed.

My dad was TERRIFIED by it as a child and still refuses to watch anything based on it.

That level of fear about mere surrealism just seems to me to imply that you need therapy. Badly. I've never met anyone who was THAT scared of a G-rated story who didn't have some serious, literally crippling personal issues.

It's not just surreal. There's a very light tone to it, yeah, which I could appreciate as I got older, but what's dry on the page has the potential to be disturbing. Especially when you're at a maturity level where reality itself is subjective.

I have (when I was about 10 or 12) walked out of a disney movie due to fear/upset. I'll admit I'm a wuss. But I am an incredibly strong person, and am completely mentally healthy (even have the doctors certificate to prove it). Your assumption that fear is not subjective is upsetting. I am afraid of things that are unlikely. I don't care about snakes, spiders, sharks, heights, car crashes etc. But serial killing sociopaths (or conversely, a world with no clear rules) are horrifying to me. And I do not enjoy that fear (unlike speed adrenaline). I can tell you that fear over normal "un-scary" things is actually quite common. Everyone has different things that bother them. Not realising this shows a distinct lack of understanding.
