This. I'm not even into Hetalia anymore, but I never liked this character (a sin in this fandom last time I checked, it was a long time ago, but I don't think it changed that much?)

Lately one of my friends got into Hetalia and started to bash my favorite character (Belarus) just because "she is bad for Ivan and gets in the way of her and Ivan's love"

Agreed in regards to taking things too far when it comes to fictional characters, in general.

Still, I wouldn't fret much. Most fangirls/fanboys say and do a lot of silly stuff and most of them will grow up eventually -- usually by ramming straight into something because they charged in without looking. However, I wouldn't begrudge them their support of communism if it at least gets them to sit down and actually read about what they're supposedly interested in due to Hetalia.

There's an annoying lack of political knowledge within the general American population when it comes to political theory -- especially leftist political theories, if I'm to judge by the sheer number of people who lump everything in there under the label of 'communism'.

Communism as practiced in the Soviet Union had some major flaws, and I would not like to live in the USSR. But the Bolsheviks weren't the monolithic force of evil they're so often made out to be, and a reasonable person can come to the conclusion that 1) Communism was better than the Tsarist regime which came before it and the oligarchy which Russia has now, and 2) Post-Stalinist Communist parties would probably make their countries a better place if elected.

I hate when fans of something automatically support an idea/theory/what have you (without having any idea what it IS they're supporting) just because it was featured in what they like and/or their favorite character supports it.

If they develop an interest in what it is the character supports, do some research on it and THEN support it, that's one thing. But the idea of "So-and-So supports it, so I do! Um, whatever it is!" ...ugh.

There's a definite difference between Communism and Stalinism, though. And people occasionally fantasize about someone other than their partner when having sex, it's not uncommon by any means. I get that it's unsettling when people latch onto some idea or ideal or theory just because omg this character does! without knowing or caring anything about it, but again there's a difference between that and getting interested due to a character, learning more about it, and deciding you support it based on what you've learned.

LESS TL;DR I'm not surprised that there are batshit crazy Russia fans. But there are batshit crazy fans all over fandom -- pretty much ANY fandom -- and not all of what you're listing is necessarily crazy or even bad. It really depends on what degree they take it to, but in the end, I still doubt they're worse than the crazies in any other fandom.
