Why do people not understand that yaoi/slash/shounen-ai/whateverthehell, are NOT the same thing?

"lol it's all gay/boy-on-boy/whatever"

Right, 'cause hardcore man/woman porn = D/s het fantasies = fluffy chick flicks = romance novels = nonfiction het relationships = realistic fictional het relationships, it's all heterosexual relationships! If you like one you surely like the others, too!! Let's get over ourselves, they're not different at all.

Whatever.

ETA: Yeah, so it's a touchy subject for me. But I hate hate hate hate when people are all "I know yaoi isn't realistic!" and then are all "eee yaoi!" whenever there's -anything- gay regardless of whether it's actually yaoi-themed or not.

If I happen to like some guy, it's not fucking "yaoi" goddammit. It's just me liking some guy. Do not ask me who is seme or uke. Do NOT say "lol u must be uke because u look it." You know what, don't even assume there IS a seme or uke at all. HI GUYS THIS IS NOT YAOI. "Gay" works. "Homo" works. Just like "het" covers everything. Yaoi DOES NOT. I would hate so hard to live in a yaoi story. I'm sure most people would too.

What does that say? That says yaoi has themes. That means it's a sub-genre of "gay." It's like saying "sci-fi," another sub-genre in the blanket genre of "action/adventure." If you called PotC "sci-fi" would people think you're an idiot? YES. Because you'd be WRONG. How about "romance" as an overarching genre, and "historical drama" as a subgenre? Lol, does that mean "She's All That" is a historical drama? According to the original reasoning, of course it does!

aeghaetjghaetk gay people/gay literature (albeit fandom-based) have diverse relationships/themes too, dammit.

3. Have my babies, plz. ♥

14. I couldn't stand Tenchi. @.@;;; I did like the first movie though.

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
...Damn, you're as right as the person who made the secret. D: Is it okay if I agree with you both?

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure! I mean for the record, I'm not all LOL SLASH >> YAOI or YAOI >> SLASH, I'm just pointing out that like yes, sure, it's all gay but they're genres of gay. *dies*

[identity profile] keikain.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Uuuugh. So much word on number 12! What's worse is she cross-posts in about seven or eight communities (sometimes with the same misspellings in every single author's note). Anyone remember that day she did a seven part series and cross-posted each part separately one after the other?

[identity profile] killcity.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
2. I love that movie so damn much, and I cried (and still do) that that part too ;_;

14. TENCHI MUYO LOVEEEEE!~!!1 ♥♥♥♥

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
9. OMG I KNOW! The uber-popular characters/pairings just aren't that appealing to me though.

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate when people wank over terms, but it boggles me when people call a story about two American schoolboys holding hands and sharing meaningful glances "yaoi".

Yeah, I know how that is. I was banned from Y!G and I love every minute of it. =P

14. Oh my god, Tenchi Muyo is what got me INTO anime in the first place. ♥ I remember being like, thirteen and wanting a pet cabbit more than anything else. Good memories.

[identity profile] shahrizai.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
OMFG, people don't know what Tenchi Muyo is? I feel sad for the state of anime fandom. I guess I'm a little better off - I'm a Lodoss fangirl. The fandom is non-existent, but everyone's seen it. It's like one of those weird rites of passage like seeing EVA or Vampire Hunter D.

I'm also feeling sad for the state of anime cons. I feel like an old school fan who just never got to cons in earlier years before fanbrats moved it, so now that I can finally go I just want to smack people.

I don't even want to know the number of fans under the age of 18 who have ever gotten VHS fansubs. Hell, I'm 20 and I was on the edge between fansubs and digisubs. Damnit, people, have some respect for the days before broadband when it was actually hard to pirate shit. We had to make an effort!

1. WORD. Sure, I try to make mine pretty, but it's not to compete. It's just because I like to make pretty things. Some of the most meaningful secrets I've read have been "ugly as shit."

2. Me too. I loved that movie. ;_;

[identity profile] descorde.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously! Like romance novel and chick flick? You could be all uh yeah, they're like the same thing, but they're NOT (you know, besides the obvious different media). Blarg. And stuff. D:

[identity profile] niwakaame.livejournal.com 2007-04-21 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
13. When I was three, I inadvertedly dropped my favourite(and wellonly) sailro moon figure in the toilet and accidentally flushed.

I was quite sad, I hope it got a nice life:/.
aestivalis: akito sits in a cockpit, the terraformed planet mars in full view behind him (martian successor nadesico) (and that hurts you know)

WHY DOES THIS MOVIE GET NO LOVE? It's like a forgotten Disney classic. Only modern. I thought it was wonderful >:

The saddest part, though, is Mr. Arrow. That's his name, right? Auuuugh, heartbreaking!
