nah, don't worry. I don't really ship anyone, either. They're all basically a close-knit group of friends to me... I can't really see them as anything more. So don't feel alone, anon!

I love Ziva and Tony and the friendship they have now. The teasing, the nagging, that they really care about each other.

I really hope the show doesn't try to push it into a romantic/sexual relationship.

That said, I don't think Tiva fans are making some giant stretch when they ship it. The show is definitely feeding them subtext.

Thank you, I agree! I'm not a rabid crazy Tony/Ziva fan but I am a fan and I will agree that the fans work with what the show gives them. I mean, if an episode has a line or a long lingering glance, obviously the fans are going to work with the material given and there's a reason they've been given the material!

He looked horribly constipated in that scene, which felt really forced even without him looking like he's thinking he needs to pick up some prune juice after work.

Fangirls make it easy to hate a ship. Anywhere, at any time. But this one more so than in other places. I admit to liking some romancish stuff in my shows to round them out, if there is a natural space for it. This is one where I think there is- the characters play well off each other, and the actors have delicious chemistry. It's mostly subtext and a little teasing and always has been, but doesn't (imo) detract from the point of the show. I don't feel like the writers are going out of their way to thump me over the head with it (helllooo, Bones!). I don't exactly ship them, but they are terribly cute. Not sure I'd want much more than what we've got on the show, though. Relationship exploration is what fic is for.

I ship it, but in a lot of ways, I don't want them to get together. It's mostly the anticipation that I feed off of, and if something did happen, it'd probably ruin everything. I don't want to see "awkward mornings after" or lovers quarrels or that weird awkwardness you get when you date a co-worker. The only way I would want it to actually happen is for them to get together and leave the show. And I don't want them to leave the show. They're fun to watch.

Sigh. Torn shipper is torn.

I really don't ship it either, but the rabid tiva hate fans are starting to push me in the other direction >_> bashing CdP like its her damn fault ziva is written poorly, creaming their pants over every malexmale interaction, and just the whole elite smart ass vibe they give off. I'd take the irrational crazy fangirls over that shit any day. Sometimes I wish they'd just hook up so these angry people would just gtfo the fandom.

I have a few ships that squick me. The other night I was in a discussion with a friend about how she ships Tony/Gibbs, which squicks me, and how I ship Abby/Gibbs, which squicks her.

You seem to have a fairly mature attitude towards your squicks, OP, and I wouldn't worry about them. It's when people are attacking other fans like birds of prey that the shit gets crazy.

I, too, just can't get behind Tiva, but then I'd prefer not to see any inter-team romance on the show (even with the pairings I ship). Keep that in the fanficiton.

And I felt stupidly victorious when I heard Michael Weatherly's opinions on Tiva, haha /is lame.

This is me. I thought it was going there before I even started watching the show (because the little publicity it gets, guess what it's always about), but along the way I shifted from passively expecting it to vehemently opposed. I think the actors have lots of chemistry, but the characters don't. I grant Ziva had some kind of crush/fixation on Tony for a while, but if he had reciprocated, I think she would have realised she didn't actually want him. I just can't ever imagine them crossing the line, their "flirting" is totally empty of intent or tension.

And that was before the whole Rivkin thing. Now it's just impossible.

Although I like the pairing, until recently I didn't want to see it be canon. I don't have faith that writers on most shows can do a canon pairing justice. I've seen too many screwed up, and this has the added "bonus" of being a procedural, which tend to fail at relationships even more than "regular" dramas. (And the way Brennan dealt with the possibility in his interviews last year really made me think that he would screw it up.)

With that being said, the constant bashing and hate is turning me more and more into a Tony/Ziva lover and making me start to think I want it to be canon. I effing hate what this fandom has become recently. I used to like that I didn't care what people shipped and that they didn't care what I shipped. You (the general "you", not specifically directed at the OP) don't see it? Fine. But please don't actively speak out against it/talk sh*t about it/campaign against it.

I want to go back to the way things were even just 2 or 3 years ago. :(

That's a really good point actually. I'm very new to the NCIS fandom. I apparently ship a rare pairing and a controversial pairing, and all I hear is "Your ship is so disgusting." Well, I could say the same thing about *your* (general) ship, but jeez, to each his own.

Wait, don't you ship McGee/Abby? Didn't I try to help you find stories about them? Am I remembering wrong, or do you have a different primary pairing?

I definitely ship them... Someone told me they weren't popular. Haha.

I'll be honest with you Meredith, it is 50% the rabid "Tiva" fans who are making me hate Tony/Ziva as a 'ship. I probably wouldn't be quite so opposed to the bare idea if it weren't for them, though I really don't think they work together like that. You, at least, are reasonably sane about it.

I'm a TiVA fan and apart of the no-tiva community here because I do understand the dislike and I like the opinions BUT I have to say for all the rabid TiVA fans there are probably as many hypocritical anti-TiVA fans who only want TonyTonyTony or Gibbs centric stuff or just slash (which more than likely would actually sink the show just as quickly as they think TiVA will, if not faster.)

I think the rabid TIVA fans come from the official CBS board which is unmoderated and unruly though, when I read stuff there, it makes me hate TIVA too.

And I get the feeling too, when a fandom suddenly becomes big and one pairing gets all the focus. It's why I hate House. I've been watching it for a few years and then all the sudden everythings all Huddy and it makes me want to stab someone.

It might be based on where I visit? On entertainment sites like Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide, I'd say about half of the people are moderate, whether they are for or against Tony/Ziva. About 1/4 of the people that are left are enthusiastic Tony/Ziva shippers. The rest (the majority of the vocal people) are very anti-Tony/Ziva. At least the last time I checked. (I got very irked and gave up reading comments about NCIS in those locations for the most part.)

On LJ, whether it is just coincidence that my newsletter nights fall as they do or it is just the way the episode reaction posts go or whatever, but I'd say of the people that have a strong opinion, I definitely see much more anti-Tony/Ziva than pro-Tony/Ziva. I think what makes it worse for me is that a lot of the news posts and the like that I see now tend to be in the anti-Tony/Ziva community and thus if I want to discuss a news article, the slant is strongly anti-Tony/Ziva.

I think my "favorite" was the post that talked about a poll about the couple and it was stated that people should continue to keep up their campaigning to CBS to keep the couple apart. Really? I don't campaign against any couple, so why is it considered okay to actively campaign against this one?

Again, I'm not claiming this is a completely representational study of the fandom; it's just what I've seen.

I have 3 couples that I'd consider my "main" ships. (The Abby/Ziva of your icon is one of them.) And, honestly, I can see the subtext/chemistry between a number of couples, even if I don't ship them for whatever reason. I don't care what people ship, and I really wish people wouldn't care what I ship. (Or, at least, that they would keep their virulent feelings to personal journals/vents.) The horses have probably already bolted regarding that issue, however. :(

ITFA, apart from being sorry about it. I'm thoroughly sick of the whole damn thing. DO NOT WANT.
