Iiiiidk, it kinda squicks me personally. Luke looks up to the Professor as a father figure, and the Professor definitely returns the sentimentality. To see that get turned into a romantic/sex driven relationship makes it seem like the professor is infringing on some trust that they have--which I don't visualize them having.

In short, why are you writing kiddie porn anyway?

[identity profile] wings-on-flames.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly, especially after being molested by a father figure.

That sure makes a fuck-load of sense.

Actually, as a sexual abuse survivor, writing has been an integral part of my therapy and helping me heal after those traumas. I still, if I start going through a bad nightmare cycle, which thankfully I only get once or twice a year now, will write a story or do an rpg that involves rape/molestation. Through my characters I have been able to really, truly feel the grief I didn't get to show in real life when these things happened to me. And through the characters around them, I am able to assert to myself while writing them the comfort I might not have gotten. I've written about alot of things in my life and dealt with them vicariously through fictional characters and I think I've become more sane because of it.

It sounds to me like you are writing in a way that your characters were abused but are working their way through it and overcoming their pain. This I understand completely. What I am unclear of is why someone who's suffered through such abuse and acknowledged how horrible it was would then write of a consensual sexual relationship between a child and a father-figure in a positive way... It's seems like it's saying that it's okay for those two characters because it's not being done in a out-right abusive way, but it just seems to me like there's something more to the story. Maybe it's just part of their way of coping with it, and that's why I am unable to understand it.

[identity profile] wordfuzion.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, that bothers me some too. I have a problem with father-mother-figure deification when there's sex involved in their relationship with a child. It doesn't seem to be healing by writing, it seems like OP is looking to write for a pairing that already exsists or a fantasy of their own that's contradictory to the abuse that happened.

THAT SAID...when an older person takes you under their wing and treats you special, it's not uncommon for you to develop a crush on them. Perhaps this means OP is still working with their feelings of guilt or responsibility. It's a hard thing to get past, to realize that the adult was totally in the wrong, that they weren't "tempted" or loved you so much they "couldn't help it."

Either way, I hope OP finds an outlet and even more so I hope he or she finds a few good friends that can offer support. Also, the internet has some wonderful sex abuse survivior groups and you can create a fake name to join them if s/he's not ready to tell all yet.

actually, you've no idea what sort of plot the OP was going to write. Just because the picture was bright and sunny doesn't mean the story was going to be, either. Seeing as the OP knows exactly what sort of things happen in a pedophilic relationship like that, I doubt they would have written it in a positive way like you suggest. But even then, they might not have been able to write it out. Like alienchrist said, perhaps they just couldn't relive the memory while writing it out, even if it works for other people.

[identity profile] wings-on-flames.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
I was originally replying to [livejournal.com profile] breepants, who had a similar view on the subject and the pairing as myself, and I'm sure we're not the only ones who feel that way. But after hearing what [livejournal.com profile] wordfuzion had to offer, I began to understand the subject more and appreciate their imput. What I'd like to know, though, is how are you so confident that it wouldn't have been written in a dark and abusive fashion? The OP hasn't spoken out and made it clear to us what the exact tone of their writing might have been, and so I'm allowed to make inferences about the secret using context clues in the secret - a "bright and sunny" picture, "amazing plot idea that involved intense sex," and the fact that they were deterred from doing so (for what ever the reason may be) due to their own traumatic past. Just because [livejournal.com profile] alienchrist wrote it that way, it doesn't mean a completely different person would. You don't know just as well as I don't, unless you are the OP. But like I said, it just seems to me like there's something more to the story. Writing KIDDIE PORN is one thing; writing about something traumatic to work it out is another.

Yeah, I went on a tangent. But it's still childhood trauma for both the OP and the pairing.

(Anonymous) 2010-01-11 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Most pedophiles were abused as children, this does not excuse their own pedophilia.

[identity profile] laytonmeme.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I've known a fair share of authors who subconsciously started to write and read shota as a form of catharsis for their own experiences. Either way, what's wrong with writing what they like? It's seriously fictionalised and no real children are in danger, so I'd say it's a fairly harmless way to go about it provided the author understands the enormity of the crime in real life (and obviously the OP here does).

(For what it's worth, I'm not a fan of shota.)
