I don't know. Preferences are preferences and everything, but as much as I love Nine (and I do), I love Claude more. I'm glad he chose that role instead of that of Sylar (because I believe he was offered both), and while god knows I'd much prefer him back on Heroes in that capacity, and/or in movies I could manage to not feel embarrassed about watching, I've come to terms with the fact that it's his career, and not mine.

Well. I've tried to come to terms with that. It's a process.

he probably would have left again after one season anyway because of his fear of getting typecast. I'm quite happy he took the part of Claude.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?! I love Claude something fierce (as you know), but now I don't think I'll ever stop wondering about what might've been.

Well. I've tried to come to terms with that. It's a process.
Oh, is it ever.

I don't remember where I read it, but there was definitely an article where he mentioned that he was offered both roles, but he didn't want to play a villain because he felt European actors tended to get typecast that way. And I mean, his Sylar would've been completely different from ZQ's. I got into a discussion once of whether it'd have been Major West evil but logical, Ben Jago normal enough (but slightly skeevy) until you cross him evil, or David Stephens antisocial and completely nuts evil. I'm still not sure which way he would've gone.

*snort* Yeah. I'm all pretending to be mature here on [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] about it, but...yeah.
ext_23411: (fantastic)

The interview is here (http://www.herosite.net/eccleston.htm). I was just looking my old post on it after reading the above and so have the link handy now. :D The relevant bits:

CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON: What attracted me to Heroes is that they came in for me, and I appreciated that. We talked about two roles, and it was Claude that I decided on, the second role.

HS: Was there something in particular that made you choose Claude?

CE: Well, there's a possibility that we'll be giving away plot points, but what I will say is that the first role was a villain, and I didn't want to play a villain. I think that it's somewhat of a cliche for European actors to play villains in American culture, and I didn't want to be part of that.

Oh, fantastic, I was just about to go look for it. :D

He's got a definite point there though that didn't stop him from being the villain in The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising. I think his Sylar would've been far more subtle and less hammy, very introverted until someone makes him snap or something. Yes, sadly, we'll never know. I know the first two examples (28 Days Later and Othello, though I haven't seen the second one), but what's the third example from and where can I find it?

I love being part of his fandom because we analyze everything and try to talk about it really objectively, and then we have little burst of fangirling. It's so much fun. :D

If you look above [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] has linked to the actual interview and it's quite good. But yeah, didn't stop him with The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising, which I kind of wish it had. If you see Othello, you will find out that CE can be very hammy indeed, when he goes off the deep end crazypants. There's this one scene where I am continually caught between laughing, cringing, and, um...another thing. Yeah. It's an interesting scene. David Stephens is from Shallow Grave (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111149/), which was also directed by Danny Boyle and also stars Ewan McGregor. It is...not my favorite movie of his, but in true CE fangirl spirit I have seen it a couple of times.

*laughs* Seriously. I think we have, like, three parts serious analysis to one part crazy fangirling about how awesome CE is.
