I love the first season. <3 It took me years to even try to watch the second season (it not airing in Sweden didn't help either), because I couldn't imagine Rose having adventures with someone that wasn't Nine (I even went back to see the First and Second Doctors before I saw Ten).

I don't know. Preferences are preferences and everything, but as much as I love Nine (and I do), I love Claude more. I'm glad he chose that role instead of that of Sylar (because I believe he was offered both), and while god knows I'd much prefer him back on Heroes in that capacity, and/or in movies I could manage to not feel embarrassed about watching, I've come to terms with the fact that it's his career, and not mine.

I'm still miffed that there are a lot of New Who fans that didn't even try to watch the first series with Nine/Ecclescake (with reasons like "he's not that good-looking" tse tse) :( Personally, he's my Doctor and I'm glad he did at least that one epic series (which is still the best of New Who imo).

I kinda hope he will get his career back on track though, GI Joe was a disaster.

OP, are you me? This secret breaks my heart and makes me feel so warm and fuzzy simultaneously.

I just want the man to do something really, really good, even if it isn't mainstream, and get acclaim for it like Jeff Bridges or something. He's amazing, yet so few people know who he is, and that just makes me really sad.

Personally, I think Eccleston was already an accomplished actor before he was The Doctor. I'd heard of him way before then. Eccleston didn't really need to get noticed whereas (if we're comparing) Tennant was a relative unknown so had to "play the media game" a bit more. I suppose he's turned out to be quite likeable so TV shows/etc are falling over themselves to get him now because of that.

The only thing that I don't like about Eccleston's time on the show is that the rumours/mystery over his decision to only do one series sometimes over shadow the fact that he did have some good episodes there. Yet it was short, but there's no point wondering what might've been. I found out today Tennant was considering staying on for one more series and part of me was sad because I do wonder what he'd be like under Moffat but ah well...that's life.

TL:DR They're different actors with different styles and approach things differently. Plus their careers were at different points when they became The Doctor. Don't worry about it too much. Eccleston will still be appreciated by many.

Personally, I'm a bigger fan of David Tennant as an actor and as a person than I am of Chris. I relate to David more and he's a giant geek and Who fan who seems to have fun at his job and honestly love it. Who was the first time I'd seen him in stuff, I went on to see a couple other of his projects for their story, not him and then became a giant fan of the guy. Well, for me. Probably not in relation to other fans.

I went to see Hamlet when I heard he was in it because I'd seen him in completely different roles and I couldn't wait to see him, and also Patrick Stewart, in this play.

HOWEVER!

Nine is my Docter. He will always be my Doctor. I love Ten, I love every other incarnation of him to one degree or another. But Nine is mine and I cried when he regenerated. The holographic message he left to Rose and regeneration still makes my heart clench.

I wish, I wish so much that Christopher had continue on as the Doctor for several years and that David could take over then. I do. It would have been fantastic and I say as much fairly often.

But he chose to leave.

He's chosen the path of lesser recognised roles and that's his choice.


He is a fantastic actor, and I would love to see his Hamlet. My copy of the play has a picture of him on the front lol. He was good as Claude and again I wished he'd come back because he was so interesting. But these are his choices. And most of the stuff I see his name turning up in these days I've no desire to watch and so I don't.


In short, though Nine is my Doctor, Tennant is my fave of the two actors. And I separate the two. I'm sad they're both gone. And I look forward to Eleven who I'm sure I'll love also.


ETA: To add to this, everyone and I mean EVERYONE must watch Second Coming. It is awesome and Christopher is beyond fantastic in it. Everyone go out and find it and watch it because OMG brilliance.

I haven't watched Dr. Who, but I love Eccleston. I'm sort of glad he did stay mired in one role. I don't know if he wants to be "big" or well-known. Many actors are happy to get steady work in a variety of roles.

I'm glad he doesn't have a bunck of crazy fangirls like Tennant and Quinto.

oh, oh, so much love. i love this man as the doctor, as destro, as God, as othello's gay lover--anything he does i watch, even jude. he's my doctor, my first doctor, and i love tennant to bits and i'm sure i'll love matt smith too, but oh, eccleston, you were my favourite.

but i believe in eccles. i believe that he will continue to do work and i will watch and enjoy it because just knowing that he's out there doing work and grining his grin can cheer me up.

I don't feel sorry for him. He has a greater freedom when it comes to acting choices. It's going to take a while for Tennant to shake off his Doctor Who days so that anyone else can see him play anything but. There is a big difference between guest starring in a sketch and carrying a whole new project.

There's a very good movie you need to see: Jude based on Thomas Hardy's Jude the Obscure. It stars him and Kate Winslet. It's depressing as all hell, but a triumph of film making, IMHO.

Plus, there's short scene where he shares the screen with a veeery young David Tennant.
