I ship neither Harry/Hermione nor Penny/Sheldon, but just because someone ships something, doesn't mean they're trying to make it become canon.

You've never visited the Sheldon/Penny lj comm where "It's practically canon" and rationalizations for why it is canon (or is for sure going to happen by sweeps/the finale) are posted on a regular basis, or where they "spread the word" by spamming spoiler sites with questions about the ship or have organized twitter campaigns to message the writers of the show about how much they love it so that maybe they'll realize how popular it is so it will happen. True, not everyone who ships something believes it is canon or will be canon or is trying to make it canon, but there are a lot of S/Pers who do.

I love canon pairings, but I don't rub them in people's faces, and think that folks who ship non-canon are totally having more fandom fun than me. But all these batshit S/P shippers REALLY don't seem to get that. It's like they're canon shippers who got stuck shipping something that won't be and now they're bitter and crazy!

I concede to your superior knowledge. Admittedly, I don't spend much time in the BigBangTheory fandom because, well, it's a sitcom. But I know a few people who enjoy S/P and are completely uncrazy about it. And I know a lot of Harry/Hermione shippers who are completely uncrazy. I sometimes just feel the need to defend them.

I've spoken with a few of the uncrazy S/Pers too. There are several who've posted in that comm and in here who I genuinely respect, though I don't necessarily agree with. It's just a shame there is a nasty cloud of batshit hanging over the ship in general. It doesn't help any that it's practically in the community manifesto. I mean when you click on links like this from their userinfo http://community.livejournal.com/sheldon_penny/132092.html and see it start with It's Canon, People!, and you start to realize this is a common thread in quite a few of the posts it makes you take a step back.

lol right? I like the show, I really really do. And I LOVE non-canon shipping (though I don't fully get this particular ship). But it's so beyond silly to get THAT militant about forcing a non-canon ship. I can't even begin to understand it. I was reading Paradox pretty regularly for a while, trying to understand where they're coming from (and, okay, because admittedly I find the whole delusional "this is totally going to be happening. they're just saying it's not to throw us off track! ps Kaley and Jim and totally hooking up" bit amusing), but it got to be way too much for me.

Oh you've never been to the comm. I regulary read the reaction post because I like reading reaction posts (I'm weird like that) and they're a lot of people saying it's already canon based on what they see or saying the writers would be stupid not to make it canon and campaigning for it.
