Holy shit another Coldfire fan! And I would definitely consider history a fandom but as a fellow history nerd, perhaps I'm biased.
Also Final Fantasy and Assassin's Creed are awesome.

Friends :D?

Hellz yah! Dude, us Coldfire fans are few and far between- I would love to add you!

Also, awesome icon ;D

I know right! I think I know like...2 others irl and a sparse handful on the intarwebz. Added!

[identity profile] unavalible.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
All I have is my mom and a co-worker... *laugh* So it's nice to add you :)

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
:o I've suggested them to my mom before but she just doesn't ever pick them up. But I think having her suddenly in on all of the "lol Gerald and Damien..." jokes my friends and I go on about would be a little disturbing. Although who knows, maybe my mom would ship them too.

[identity profile] unavalible.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
My mother was actually the person to recomend them to me! She was proud when I picked up on the homoerotic parts, although she firmly belives that they never 'loved' each other. But to each their own, I guess!

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I read a historical fiction series called The Lymond Chronicles that was like that. My mom suggested those to me, and after I finished 2/6 she goes "So did you pick up on what's going on between Lymond and so-and-so?" I didn't know how to respond to that kind of question coming from my mother so I was just like "Uhhhh. Yeah?" So given that episode I'm fairly certain she'd pick it up in Coldfire too.

Is there any particular type/era of history you're interested in?? If you like 1500s European history those Lymond books are fantastic.

[identity profile] unavalible.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, sound's interesting! I'll google those books right away :D

I find it entertaining that you asked me this question as I am watching a show on the Medici family xD

My main area is the Classics- so Ancient Greece. I am also really into the Renaissance but that is just a side passion of mine. I'm working on my history degree right now and I hope to go all the way up to my PhD in Classics :) I also deal heavily with sexuality, specifically homosexuality and its influence on different cultures :D I've taught panels at Yaoi conventions and I often write papers up, just for kicks. You should see my library xD

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I think Coldfire and Classics nerds must go together, because my friend in Tallahassee is studying Classics as well!

XD I love hearing about what kinds of things history nerds are interested in. There's such a wide range of stuff, areas and eras and topics. Personally I love military history, Imperial Rome, anything Russian, and the 14th Century Black Death. So my library is a fairly weird and diverse bunch of books too.

[identity profile] unavalible.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I'm more into the romantic and artists aspect I guess- although nothing like a good war to get you excited! I must admit I tend to shy away from history that is incredibly political, so military history isn't really my thing. Not that I don't find it interesting, but I don't curl up with a good book on Russian politics!

The 14th Century Black Death is always interesting though- something about so many people dying really seems to capture a lot of peoples imaginations for some strange reason! xD I actually have to read a book on death and the plague for my Reformation course :D

[identity profile] stormbringer986.livejournal.com 2010-02-01 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Despite my International Affairs degree I'm actually not that interested in political stuff either, except when it's in the context of military stuff like invasions and wars and all that good stuff. I'm an Air Force brat so I'm blaming that for my military fascination.

XD That's really true. I've been interested in it since I was in like 3rd grade and read something about it in a book I had. It's really interesting when you think about what an effect it had on just about everything back then.

Harry Potter, Final Fantasy, Discworld, Renaissance, writing, reading, being a dork
You and your interests sound like fun. :D Also: Dragon Age! I recently got into the game/fandom and, since none on my flist are games, I'm in desperate need for some people to discuss the aweswomeness of that game.

May I friend you? :)

[identity profile] unavalible.livejournal.com 2010-02-02 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
For sure, I would love to add you~! Welcome to the wonderful world of game fandoms ;D

Who's your favorite DA:O character? :)

[identity profile] ayascythe.livejournal.com 2010-02-03 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, game fandoms actually are a bit new to me. I dabbled in Final Fantasy, but I was never really active.

I love all of them, really, but I do have a soft spot for Sten, Dog and Leliana. And Loghain. Yours? ^^

[identity profile] unavalible.livejournal.com 2010-02-03 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I like them all too in their own little way. But in regards to the ones I like having around the most I would have to say Zevran, Alistair, and Leliana ;D

What did you choose to play your first playthrough? I was a male human rogue- so a Noble :)
ext_96363: by me (DAO ~ Morrigan ~ Witch of the Wilds)

[identity profile] ayascythe.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I love having Zevran around, but he always has the tendency to die when there's a battle. He has some of the funniest dialogues, though.

I was a female Dalish warrior. I made the ultimate sacrifice and was so depressed afterwards that I started the fem!Cousland origin just so I could have my happy ending this time. XD

[identity profile] unavalible.livejournal.com 2010-02-04 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't die on me too often, I just set him up with the right armour and weapons and he lasted a while for me :) I actually had a lot of trouble with Alistair who's supposed to be the tank of the group. He died on me left right and center. Meanwhile Wynn was impenetrable for me xD

I saved right before the final battle, so I just went back and did both of the endings (where you knock Morrigan up or you die). I was really sad when I killed my guy off, too. Especially when they have the epilouge and it seems like all of your party members has a craptastic life after it all. I especially felt bad when I managed to woo Zevran into loving my guy, only to have him die on him xD

[identity profile] ayascythe.livejournal.com 2010-02-06 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
Zevran only gets the leftover armour and weapons from Leliana, so his dying all the time may be my fault then. XD

I replayed the ending and let Alistair die instead of my character - only to find out that it wasn't spectacularly different. Anora was queen and everyone seemed quite cheery, which annoyed me, because "hey, your king and friend died and sacrificed himself, don't you care?"
it seems like all of your party members has a craptastic life after it all
If you're in a romantic relationship with Leliana, she'll be heart-broken and return to Orlais. Years, later she'll claim to have had another vision and say something like "Now I'll be with my true love again".

(Also, sorry for the delayed answers. Examinations keep me busy at the moment. ^^)

[identity profile] unavalible.livejournal.com 2010-02-06 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a little odd, I thought more people would be broken up about the fact that Alistair died... hrm. I decided to kill my guy off just because I'm a sucker for that kind of ending, where the hero dies xD

It was really hard to get Morrigan to accept that I wasn't going to knock her up though. She kept trying to convince me by talking about my 'beloved' Zevran and how he would rather I live after sleeping with her for one night then die because I was so faithful xD It was hard, but I finally got her to accept that I wasn't going to do it... felt kinda bad though. I kept wanting to press the 'Okay, I'll do it' or the 'Okay, Alistair will do it' button.

That's sad with Leliana, though. Ho hum, they really know how to tug at your heartstring, eh?

You really have to ask them about him, otherwhise they won't even bring up the topic. Ending where the hero dies >>> definitely my favourite thing as well. :D

I think Morrigan did the same thing with me talking about Alistair (cunning little witch!). Did she really accept your choice? She was furious with mine and ran off in her wolf-shape never to return again.

they really know how to tug at your heartstring, eh?
Oh yes, they really do. In the epilogue, there was one paragraph about Sten being asked, if he met any other worthy warriors in Ferelden and he says "Only one". I was all "Oh. Oh. *gets teary-eyed"

[identity profile] unavalible.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That's so strange. It's almost as if Alistair didn't matter. Maybe if he was set to be king in your game rather then Anora as Queen people would be more broken up? Hrm...

She accepted it, but she still left as well. She wasn't furious near the end though- she was just really sad and when I asked her to stay she said she couldn't bare to see me throw my life away and she didn't want to be there to see me die. So she took off in her wolf form as well. But did you notice that if you survive the entire affair and you're walking around after the ceremony, there is a little grey dog that looks A LOT like Morrigan hanging out in the corner with Sten and Dog?

Yeah, I got that as well from Sten. I didn't have Leliana in a romantic relationship, so with her she wrote a song about how much of a hero my guy was, sang it only once in public, before dissapearing for forever D: Did you get the one with Oghren naming his first child after you?
