The CW is doing a remake? I hadn't heard about that. I stopped watching the show at around the third season due to scheduling conflicts and never went back and caught up. I did like what I had seen.

Yes, they are (http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/43438347.html?nc=196). I have to say, though, as much as I adore the show, you might be better off having stopped before the fourth and fifth seasons. It did go a bit crazy.

I loved the actors, the music, and the angst of the USA network version. Didn't really get into either movie version. Not sure that I want to see them try for yet another remake. It just wouldn't be the same.

If the CW doesn't cast Nikita as every other cookie-cutter CW female, then maybe this'll be all right. Because sometimes they really don't suck as far as developing good shows with decent storylines.

That is one of the major issues that friends of mine/other lovers of the series had. (I have to admit, it bothers me a little, too.) I'm guessing the entire cast is probably going to look akin to the cast of 90210. Sadly.

I am hoping for good storylines, though, and a revived interest in the older show. *crosses fingers*

Honestly, the story has been remade from the original movie, to an american movie (which was quite good in it's own right), to the series. It's not the idea of remaking the show that bothers me, because it's been done so many times; it's the fact that it will be done on a network that focuses way too much on young, attractive, teen drama. I think it would be better served if it was on USA (again) or HBO/Showtime (I wish). With that said, McG helped make Chuck happen and Chuck is excellent. If he can bring some of that spy excellence to the new Nikita, then awesome.

I totally agree with all of this, and yet, I'm still hoping for the best. (Thanks for the news that McG helped with Chuck. I didn't realize that, and I love Chuck, so that gives me even more cause for optimism.)

Goddamn I was obsessed with this show back in the day. Liked the show better than the original movie, honestly. I don't know if any reboot/remake can compare to the show for me. D: I'll still keep a very open mind though.

Any new version won't have Roy Dupuis. Therefore it is made of fail, ha.

In all seriousness I wouldn't mind a remake, and on a major American network no less to get it a bigger budget and more attention, if it was HBO for example. The bloody CW will ruin the show, or at least the parts of what made the show work for me.

I'm very hesitant on remakes. Concerning that this would be on CW and the kind of shows that they make (as far as I heard), I have a bad feeling this might cater a little more as a teenager version.

If you include Alberta Watson with the Roy Dupuis, this is pretty much what my friends are saying. I can totally see this point of view, but I have to admit, my rose-colored glasses are firmly stuck on my face. ~~At least until the CW rudely knocks them off, which I'm sure they will. Sigh...~~

I'm torn for the same reasons D:

Gosh I had no idea they were remaking the series...I don't know how to feel about that. Because I was totally satisfied with the original TV series. (One of the best tv dramas ever for me.)

I echo everyone else's concerns about CW. I don't know if I'd want an uber melodramatic teeny-bopper version. I'd also fear some of the more interesting political/moral commentary and nuances would be lost in favor of romance triangles and stuff...:(
But hey, if they can do it justice then it'll be something for me to look forward to watching.

one of my first fandom crushes was Birkoff. I have tentative hope for shallow reasons.

Man I loved this show back in the day - only show I ever went across country to go to Conventions for (totally worth it, met Alberta and Don, got Matthew's autograph, Lawrence Bayne shoulda been a star!), but yeah the fandom seems to have evaporated. Without the amazing music and stellar cast they had, the willingness to let the older characters be sexual too, the joy that was Roy Dupuis, the total kickass that Peta brought to the character... I just don't see this working well.

OMG I totally didn't know there was going to be a remake. I loved this show. Roy Dupuis as Michael was sooooo hot.
