I'll buck the trend so far and say, I actually kinda hated Mists but I'll have to see if the other book is at my library, because thanks to this show I'm reading all the Arthurian legend and all the versions I can get my hands on. I never even used to *like* Arthurian legend.

The Jack Whyte books are an absolutely amazing take on the Arthurian legend. Totally worth reading.

I have loved the Mists of Avalon since my mother gave me a copy of the book when I was twelve. (I was so, so young....) It's my favorite incarnation. <3

Oh I'm sure a lot of people want to change a lot of things in the show. A lot.

I didn't like Mists of Avalon. I think in S1, Katie McGrath was sort of patterning her characterization on that book and that it was a big mistake. In S2, she's doing a much better job.

As for Jack Whyte, he's okay. Mary Stewart in The Crystal Cave though, did the most incredible job in presenting Merlin. Consider reading her Merlin trilogy as well.

I found Morgana in Mists boring as hell, but I loved, loved, LOVED Igraine. If Merlin could have an Igraine half as awesome I could die happy.

I don't know the book on the left, but I so need to read The Mists of Avalon again. I read that the first time when I was about ten and Marion Zimmer Bradley has been one of my favourite authors ever since. I love her Morgana.

OMG YES!

I love The Mists of Avalon and Jack Whyte is one of my favourite authors. Despite people telling me how awesome Merlin is, I watched about five episodes and found it utterly average. I much prefer these literary versions.

Maybe I'll try reading Mist of Avalon again because the first time around I found it overly dramatic and hysterical. That was a good few years ago though and if so many people love it maybe I should give it another go. I do second the rec for Mary Stewart's trilogy though.

Both are on my list. Mists has been there for awhile but I HAVE to finish LOTRs first.
