I know what you mean. I couldn't get over the new voices either. But there was a lot of other stuff about Brotherhood that really fucking bothered me too, I ended up dropping it.

Could you elaborate on what bothered you? I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet and want to know if it's worth my time...

The pacing is horrid, from what I've seen (admittedly, only up to Episode 15). The background music makes me cringe, and there's one scene in which I find Edward to be very OOC compared to how he's portrayed in the manga. And, of course, the voice actors, in particular Roy's. He's too breathy, IMHO, and half the time I just want to strangle him because he can't carry a scene very well. (To be fair, though, I do adore Ling's VA, and both Romi Paku and Rie Kugimiya have improved, I think.) The animation also drops in quality very quickly after the first episode, and I find most of the character designs to be too warped. Ed's eyes freak me out most of the time; it's only the occasional shot that doesn't make me want to laugh. I have the same issues with Roy's design, though maybe to a lesser extent than Ed's.

On the other hand, I do like most of the OPs? And I hear there's lots of fanservice, if you're into that stuff?

But generally, no, I don't think it's worth your time. But it's ultimately your call. I don't want to rain on the parade and all. *g*

Actually, your comment about Ed's freaky eyes makes me want to watch this now. :D I love goofily awkward animation.

From your icon, I can guess that you're a pretty big manga fan. So you'll probably find it entertaining, if nothing else. It's not always the case, but many of the people who haven't been able to get into it are those who find it way too different from the first anime, or who didn't particularly like the plot or tone of the manga to begin with.

Of course, you may not like it if you're expecting it to be 100% faithful 100% of the time.

I'm a hardcore manga fan and I dropped it because it just wasn't that good, not because it was different from the manga at times.
I'll end up watching it one day, it's just really low on my priority list. Then again, it's probably worth mentioning I'm not very into anime, I like reading manga and comics much more, unless it's something really special like (not princess) Mononoke (not hime) and Eden of the East.
Also, my opinion is probably nothing to go by, since the voice acting is the thing I was enjoying the most and I love Miki as Roy, and nobody else agrees.

I can see why it wouldn't grab you if you're not into anime that much. I'm more of an anime person than a manga person, myself.

Eden of the East! That's actually on my watch-list after Mushishi and Baccano. Heard it's very Robert Ludlum-esque, so I'm intrigued beyond all reason.

To be honest, I was a big manga fan and then I just...kind of faded away from it. I probably couldn't remember the beginning of the series well enough to tell if the new anime was faithful to it or not, so...yeah. :P I'll give it a try, though!

Me too, actually. But after a while, I just stopped anticipating the chapters. But you may find Brotherhood easier to keep interest in, since you don't have to wait eons for each new installment. Although some things that never bothered me in the manga seriously bother me in Brotherhood, like the humor. And now I'm starting to take notice of it when I actually read the manga, too. :/

Still, I say give it a try. The worst that can happen is you don't like it, and you may even rekindle that old FMA spark.

Well the first two responses covered it basically. Atrocious pacing, subpar animation, the humor falls flat, it's unbelievably BORING, and on the whole it feels like a really dumbed down version of the story until it gets to the point where it deviates from the first anime. (I dropped it at that point so I can't say what it's like from then on.) Compared to the first anime and what little I've read of the manga, the characters aren't even remotely as engaging. Where the first anime was fleshed out, Brotherhood seems more like a skeleton. I've heard it gets better after episode ~15 or so, so it may be worth it if you can stick with it till then.

I'd at least give it a shot though, worst case scenario you'll waste a few hours and have to drop it, right?

Yeeeaah, that sounds pretty dire. Luckily, the link below will let me check it out for free, and, hey, what else do I have to do on a Thursday night? :) Thanks for the response!

It zooms through pretty much everything that the first anime was already consistent with (No Youswell, Shou Tucker in episode 4, Lab 5 in episode 8, Greed & Devil's Nest in episode 13/14,) and then it starts to slow down and match the manga.

Also, there are a LOT more visual gags and random comedic elements, which are frequently straight from the manga - where they work perfectly because Arakawa is a bit of a humor genius, but don't translate quite as fluidly into the anime.

But it's super pretty and I think if you're a big manga fan (as someone said, you got that barry za choppar icon xD) you'll either LOVE it, or HATE it. You get used to the new voices, and some scenes are changed but it's basically a manga purist's dream (as opposed to the old anime)
