Sure you can :D It's not everyones cup of tea though. Sometimes people pick an OTP and that's that. I can sympothise being a die hard K/S Shipper myself.

This. Some people mulit-ship. Some don't. I can understand being so devoted to one pairing you can't see any others involving certain characters. That's not a crime now, is it? Or suddenly reason to call someone a racist?

No, I just thought it seemed like very faulty logic. "I can't support A/B because I'm so devoted to A/C!"

It's actually very logical. I like seeing A/B together, therefore I don't want to see them be broken up in any way, shape, or form.

Which is why being a OTP K/S shipper, I will never read K/Mc or S/U fics. I'm sure there are good fics for those two pairings out there, but until hell freezes over, I'm not gonna read them. :)

But they're not being broken up... they're just not being shipped.

It's a matter of preference.

OTP means One True Pairing, and for some people that's really true. They find a pairing that they like and the focus solely on that. Just because of it, it doesn't mean that they hate Uhura because she's black/female, it's because she's not their cup of tea, and that's okay. Sometimes you can dislike a character or pairing and there isn't sexist/racist implications behind it. It's very narrow-minded, or rather a black and white perception.

For the record, I would like to say that I don't dislike Uhura, for any reason. :) Well uh, I might resent her a little for calling Kirk a dumb farmboy who has sex with animals just because Kirk tried a pickup line on her, but that's a different story.

However, I dislike S/U. I dislike S/U for the same reason I dislike K/Mc, because they both are in conflict with K/S. (But technically I guess I could be racist against both white and black people, sexist, plus homophobic? You never know. :D)

Allow me to explain my view on the matter to you, from the POV of an OTP shipper:

My ship = A/B
Breaking up my ship = A/C, B/D
Not shipping my ship = A/C, B/D, C/D

I have no particular feeling about C/D, but I will not go anywhere near A/C or B/D. In fact, they are probably my anti-OTPs.

I am not saying you should understand this, but the fact is there are people who feel strongly about this kind of thing.

I think it's logical if that is your preference. There are plenty of ships I don't like or can support because I like another ship which competes with it. But I've almost always been a OTP person, sometimes I find a secondary OTP, but I can't support if it overlaps my primary OTP.

But not liking another ship doesn't mean I 'hate' the ship, or those who support it, it's just that I can support it myself.

Ah. You see, I'm the sort of person who gets more into a character. The closest I come to having OTPs is having anti-OTPs, if you see what I mean.

I think Sulu/Chekov is the closest I have ever come to having an OTP, mainly because the other common Chekov-pairings kind of squick me with the age difference stuff.

:D I tend to ship the two characters I adore the most! So in Star Trek case K/S :3 I just think that I'd find reading fic with them paired with another character...weird.

I don't think it's wrong, and I'm all for ship and let ship and I certainly don't hate, but you know, it's just not something I'd be interested in 'cause I have my OTP.

Chekov/Sulu has the best pairingsmush name ngl.

And I'm with you about the squicky age difference with other common Chekov pairings _{but only in Reboot!verse}

Hardly surprising, if we consider that in TOS Sulu/Chekov is the only common Chekov pairing.

That is my OTP, and never having an OTP before (just "a pairing which I call my OTP because I mostly write and/or read it") and being the multishipper of doom, I wouldn't have understood this secret about three months ago and reached the same conclusion.

But now, if I decided to casually read Chekov/Scotty (something I had written before OMG OTP OF DOOM) I I would, and do, actually wince, because... just... where the hell is Sulu and why is he not with Chekov. I don't... understand. Does not compute.

I can understand disliking a ship because it interferes with your OTP because of this. Writing Chekov/Scotty fic doesn't harm my OTP in anyway, but I would still get confused and that back tab would appear so tempting.

Yeah, like others have said, this. I tend to be pretty die-hard about my pairings.

I'm actually not a multi-shipper, like, ever. Or at least, not for anything that I write. If I care enough about a ship to write it, then I'm pretty OTP about it.

That said, I'm not like, ship warish about it. Other people want to ship something else that's awesome. I'm rarely shipping a canon ship anyway, so I can't be all, BUT I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG. It's just a matter of preference. I'm otp about K/Mc and S/U, so I really don't read K/S at all.
