I don't like the design in its own right, but what bothers me more is that I can't tell who it's supposed to be. Is it the Red Queen? Is it the Queen of Hearts? Is it their mysterious lovechild? I keep reading that it's the Red Queen but that makes no sense with the heart motif.

I've never read the book, but my dad told me that's how she's described. My dad's not usually a liar, so I'm inclined to believe him, but it certainly is very different from the more well known versions.

Yeah, I was sort of excited about it until I saw this character. Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman are two of my favorite actors, I will literally see anything they're in. So I'll probably see this when it gets to Netflix too, but I have no desire to see it in theaters now unless my date is the one paying.

Yes. Over her huge, inflated head. Logic fail, I know, but I find it quite disturbing. And I already have a little skeeve about Alice in Wonderland because of that Tom Petty music video where he's the Mad Hatter and Alice is a cake and he's cutting her up and serving her around. The 80's...childhood trauma done right.

I actually really like the character designs, especially the animals since they look closer to real animals and I've never seen that in a Wonderland film. I think it's an interesting twist on how the characters usually look.

I just plain don't get this version of Alive In Wonderland. I don't know, I just prefer the Alice In Wonderland I knew as a kid. I've really never been much of a Tom Burton fan tbqh, and the only reason I wouldn't mind seeing this is because of Johnny Depp and Matt Lucas :/

It should be pretty obvious to everyone by now that Tim Burton's combining the two books, so I don't see why it's such a shock to everyone that he's combining the Queen of Hearts and the Red Queen. Most adaptations have done the same, to different degrees. It's just easier that way, and you can fit more of the books into one film.

I think with both the Queen of Hearts and the Red Queen, they both are very self-centred characters with giant egos. They expect the world to revolve around them and they want to be seen as the most important and intelligent, etc. I think the character design for Burton's version portrays this, literally giving her a big head (inflated ego) plus extravagant flashy make-up, hair and clothes. Besides the fact that everything in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass is entirely bizarre and nonsensical and is SUPPOSED to be that way.

So what exactly is wrong with this character design?

Same here. I'm not watching the film. Johnny Depp's look was what got me, though. He looks fucking scary.

Also, I'm kind of disappointed on Burton. I loved most of his early films, but in recent years is like he cares more about how his movies look than about the actual plot. Corpse Bride was WEAK.

I feel the same way. It's horrid. And Tim Burton didn't do Johnny Depp any favors with that awful red wig, either. I had high hopes since I've liked his stuff before, but I guess that Tom Petty video will continue to be the only 'Alice in Wonderland' interpretation I can actually stand.

Depp? I can understand completely. I think his look is over the top, but ya know, Hatter isn't supposed to be sexy either. And someone told me that they actually like that he looks this bizarre because Depp is unrecognizable. If they didn't go over the top, he'd just look like Willy Wonka again.

Yes the designs are an eye sore, but that doesn't exactly mean the movie will be bad. You can't judge a book by it's cover. It's supposed to be bizarre and nonsensical.
