....I'm not going to say anything on 15 and 18, because loldeadhorses.

That said...

1. I can actually relate to this. I lurk a lot, and every time I think of actively participating, something keeps me from doing so. So meh.

#3 - When someone mentions Sonic, I have to speak.

[identity profile] untouchable.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
As much as I sometimes feel the same way, I can't completely agree with this. Pardon me while I wax nostalgic. I've been a Sonic fan for a long time. A long long time. Probably almost as long as the little guy has existed, if I could get my memories straight. Sonic was my hero through my entire childhood. He could do anything in my eight-year-old eyes. I believed in him like nothing else in this world. As long as there was Sonic, everything would be alright somehow. I'm an adult now, and things aren't that simple anymore, yet still after all these years, Sonic has a way of pulling me up above all the crap of everyday life, and making it seem like everything is still that simple.

Now I must admit to being out of the "fandom" for awhile there. I haven't seen too much of Sonic X, because it just didn't impress me. I haven't played a new Sonic game in a long time, as I have yet to hear or read anything about the newer games that has convinced me that they're worth my time and money. Although I will rectify that. But as a true blue (heh) fan of the little pin cushion I can honestly say that I appreciate all forms of Sonic media in some way, as any Sonic is better than no Sonic in my book. And I understand that like any form of entertainment, Sonic has been forced to change and evolve to maintain his fanbase. It's akin to trees in the wind. The tree must be willing to bend in the direction of the wind, or it will break and fall to the ground, where it will no longer be able to grow. And while I don't actually really hate any form of Sonic, I do sometimes find myself longing for a time when the name Sonic was synonymous with simple, yet ridiculously addicting gameplay, and the greatest Saturday morning cartoon to ever grace a television screen. Here's to you Sonic, may you live forever. ♥

Now that was one heck of a way to step out of lurker mode. :P I need to learn when to shut up.

Sonic X was definitely not what I was expecting it to be, which wasn't much after I realized they would have other humans in it. Maybe it's just me but I always liked the idea that Robotnik (and possibly Snivley! ;)) were the only humans around.

I'd recommend picking up the GBA Sonic Advance games since they're mostly sidescrollers. Also, the DS game seemed pretty decent from what I've played although the boss battles are completely different (they utilize the DS's touchscreen)

But hey, another Saturday morning Sonic fan always brings a smile to my face, so don't learn to shut up. ;)

Thanks for the game recs, I'll be sure to check out the ones on GBA, although the DS game will have to wait, as I have yet to obtain one. D;

Likewise, it's always a pleasure to meet a fellow SatAM fan. ^^ We do exist!

Re: #3 - When someone mentions Sonic, I have to speak.

[identity profile] the-angelic-sin.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to wait for the DS game myself seeing as my friend has had it for months and I only had it for a couple of days before lending it to him. :) And I'm 400+ miles away so I can't exactly go pick it up whenever I like, heh.

But who said we exist? :) Seriously though, every fan of Sonic I meet is mainly an AoStH fan or a fan of the newer generation games.

Sonic X was definitely not what I was expecting it to be, which wasn't much after I realized they would have other humans in it.

I tried to give Sonic X a chance, but I couldn't get into it. I heard the 2nd season got better, but I don't know much about it. :P

Re: #3 - When someone mentions Sonic, I have to speak.

[identity profile] the-angelic-sin.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I had a hard time giving it a chance because of the human characters. Chris annoyed the hell out of me, I didn't like that his parents were rich movie stars, the maid annoyed me and so did the butler. It kind of made me worry that the maid was hispanic and the butler was, I'm guessing, Japanese. =\ Not because I have problems with other races, but because of the roles they were given in the show. All the human characters killed it for me, except for possibly the blond cop that teamed up with Rouge. Hell, even "Eggman" bothered me with his two lackey robots (This might be because I preferred Scratch and Grounder or the Swatbots).

It probably doesn't help that the characterizations of Sonic and Knuckles felt a bit off to me. Sonic was always so... lazy and peaceful with no attitude at all and Knuckles just seemed like a pure idiot without any redeeming qualities. Maybe that's just me.

I watched some of the second season and didn't like it much. Some episodes were okay but really... I couldn't get into it either.

I still feel that way. :) But...my friends and I kinda made our own Sonic world, so he's still there for us. He hasn't changed much in my mind.

Re: #3 - When someone mentions Sonic, I have to speak.

[identity profile] untouchable.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same. He hasn't changed any to me personally, as I do not associate myself with the newer Sonic material (excluding the comics, that have some kind of hold on me that I cannot break). I do acknowledge however, that he has changed a great deal in the eyes of the general populace, and it saddens me that all these new Sonic fans are missing out. To my credit, I tried Sonic X, I really did but... eh, it just wasn't.... Well home is where the heart is, as they say, and my heart is in Knothole.

Sorry I'm late replying. But seriously? You officially win everything and I want to hug you. You are one of the sanest old*sk00l fans of Sonic I ever seen. All right,I dunwanna scare ya. As a follower of both the old and new Sonic, it's such a relief to find an old*sk00l fan that doesn't froth at the mouth when the new games are brought up. True, people don't have to like the next generation of Sonic. But to declare them as a crime upon the planet is taking it too far. But either way? Whether we follow SatAM, AoStH, SH, classic games, new games, etc... we follow the same hero.

Thanks for keeping the faith. :) *secret Knothole handshake*

Aw thanks. I try. ;) This divide in the Sonic fandom really depresses me. All the bashing and the "my Sonic canon eats your Sonic canon" crap is just pointless. Sure I have my preferences, but so does everyone else. People should just learn to be respect that. And personally, it pleases me greatly that my favorite childhood obsession is still alive and kickin', unlike so many of my other fandoms that have died and been forgotten over the years.

*returns secret Knothole handshake* :D

15. Yamato x Sora is canon...?

WHY AM I NOT INFORMED OF THIS

Well, I tend to like canon, but I also ship crack pairings, so...

Zero Two ftw.

2. They're both adorable. I'd have to agree that most people don't do their research though. My family has a Golden Retriever because of me and he's a bit epilleptic and not in the best shape because... well as I said, most people don't do their research.

3. Oh man and how. I used to love everything Sonic until the Sonic Adventure series came out. I miss when Sonic games were 2D, when it was just Dr. Robotnik, and when AoStH and SatAM used to play. *Sigh* Nostalgia...

12. Yes, it will and it sucks. But that's why you get a job in industry or a governmental position and don't bother with academia at all. ;) w00t for being a physics geek! I'm also one! :)

SatAm is already out on DVD boxed set. AoStH is scheduled for July(?), I believe.

I know! I was excited when they announced that SatAM would be on DVD. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get it yet because of school. However, as soon as next week is over it's the first thing I'm picking up. ;)

2. Thank you! I think they are quite the cuties myself, but we did do our research on Corgis. I just know someone that didn't do theirs and he's 3 and still bites people like puppies do and pees on people regularly. I'm sorry to hear about the Retriever though.

[identity profile] the-angelic-sin.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow! While my dog isn't in the best health he is definitely friendly to people and never bites or pees on people. The only behavioral problem he has is he was never able to get along with other dogs, we got him from a store so...

But a 3-year-old dog shouldn't be biting and peeing on people regularly. That's not only buying a dog without research; that's neglect and a lack of training.

15. PROTIP: It is possible to enjoy non-canon pairings without being in denial of and/or bashing the canon one. A lot of idiots can't do it, and I'd love to give them a good e-smacking, but not everyone who ships non-canon is a raging twit.

Personally, I very much enjoy Larsa/Penelo, for example, while acknowledging that Vaan/Penelo is far more canon, and I enjoy both a potentially canon pairing for Sakura in Naruto as well as various yuri pairings involving her.

Also, it would be easier to take you seriously if you weren't being a giant flaming dick to everyone who disagrees with you in comments.

15. I know it's a dead horse, but I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.

18. I feel that way too. I've used them before, but I usually use the "^^;;" one to convey a sweat drop.
