Kimi wa Petto(which I assume is the drama adaption to Kimi no Pet) is another great drama that deals with this whole 'Christmas Cake' mentality that both the West and the East cater to in the media. You are very correct by stating that the western stereotype of women really focuses more on blatant sexualization(not a word per say but it fits) while making sure to define a female character's worth by whether she has a man in her life or not.

We see that a lot within all sorts of movies and TV shows along with books and everything about how women need a man in her life in order to be 'successful'. You can tell that this mentality really affects the majority since most people are quick to assume that if a woman has a man in her life, then she's 'good'.

I think overall these dramas we see and the other shows on TV reflect a lot the stereotypes we've given into as people and subconsciously accept regardless rationalizing the bad that comes from these stereotypical roles. We are slaves to the machine and we know that, begrudgingly accept this.
