I feel the need to point out that most models are under 6 feet tall. Ones over 6 feet tend to have trouble in the industry I learned that from Tyra.

I watch it to be grateful that I'm ugly as sin twice warmed over.

It's like because they won the genetic lottery, they somehow don't have to bother with manners or decency. It confirms every stereotype about Beautiful Ugly People I've ever heard. I long for a reunion show in 20 years when we'll see how things fare once parts start drifting south.

This has already happened to several contestants, and a few winners too. Well, depending on your concept of beauty and where you thought certain contestants ranked to begin with. For some viewers, things were already south when they were on the show.

I always feel that a lot of models aren't actually that attractive/beautiful if that's what you mean by "genetically blessed" - I think they just look better than the average person in certain clothes and in certain make up. I don't think they're automatically superior in the beauty stakes than Ms Average just because they're models.

But I probably would say that. I'm a short-arse whose face isn't going to win any modelling contracts any time soon.

IAWTC. Models look great in a lot of today's fashions, but beauty is highly subjective. Even though the acting and fashion industries tell us that tall and slim is the way to go, I think that the most beautiful women are average height, medium build, and bottom-heavy.

And I'm also short and have an odd (but cute!) face that isn't landing me on the cover of any fashion mags!

Models often aren't pretty in the face, I think. They have features that are photogenic -- usually blank, wide-set eyes, a la Kate Moss, and are tall and unnaturally thin. That's why I'm so confused when people refer to models (at least fashion models) as a "standard of beauty". I don't think anyone intended them to be such -- they wear clothes well, because they wear them much the way a hanger or a mannequin would, and present them in a way that the designers want them to look to their potential customers.

I'm 5'10 and considered "genetically gifted" and aside from having so much difficulty finding clothes and shoes that fit (also a size 11 in shoe), nothing pisses me off more than having people assume that life is easy for me.

I work in a lab and I'm working toward my second PhD and there are people who assume that I got where I am because I slept my way to the top or that concessions are made because I am attractive. I work my ASS off and am always the first one in and the last one out and I've earned my achievements and status.

Ugh, I know a couple of girls like you in college, and I always feel so bad for them! A lot of people believe that being pretty and being smart are mutually exclusive, which is a shame.

Dang. This is so open. Usually secrets are about "I think I'm jealous of this fictional character!" but this one is just like, yeah I wish I were beautiful.

Sorry OP. I hope you are able to feel better about yourself. Since it's today we're talking about, almost all of us here have been bombarded with society's messages about beauty, and probably most of us have consequently struggled with insecurity in our appearance. I hope you find a way to make yourself feel more empowered, and a way to accept your looks.

Finding clothes can be a chore when you're tall, though. I'm only 6' and I've had trouble finding clothes all my life. (I was 5' by age 8, 6' at age 12.) Pants that are long enough, shirts whose torsos and sleeves are long enough, and decent size 11-12 women's shoes can take awhile to find on a budget. Most times, my clothes end up baggy because I buy a size that's long enough... but is also wider than necessary. Probably because I'm tired of the effort involved in shopping for truly nice stuff made for tall women.

I guess if you have fashion designers falling all over themselves to dress you it would be easier, but... eh.

It might be okay to wish you looked like them, but don't wish you are them. I know one of the winners. She's just as unhappy as you or I, if not more so. She was happier and prettier before she got on that show, imo. Trust me, ANTM does not a happy girl make.
